Brings me memories too. great hub.
Thank you
There are a lot of memories. A few I have not heard of. Thank you
I totally agree that MTV has gone way over the top with Reality TV..don't get me wrong i love reality TV but not on a station which is supposed to be dedicated to music!! Grrr
Great HUB !
regards Zsuzsy
Umm where is Common- I used to love H.E.R?? One love by Nas? Crossroads by Bone thugs n harmony?? runnin by Pharcyde? Juicy by Biggie? dear momma by Tupac?? why is nothing but a G thang so high?? its not even 20 in best rap songs ever...
Great tunes. I agree that MTV has gotten too far away from music and more into reality. Miss the old days.
A nice stroll down memory lane. Thanks
Wow. I love looking at the list, but as always, wonder at some of the rankings. How did "I want it that way" by Backstreet Boys beat out some of those in the lower 50's? They must have done it by radio plays or something. Oh well, at least Britney can be proud she got in the top 10.
Is it just me, or did they stop making good music when the 90s ended? Long live the 90s! :)
Great Hub!
i miss when vh1 and MTV actually played video's. especially head bangers ball
Awesome hub! I missed it on TV, but reading through the list definitely brought back some memories. It's just funny when you read through it that there are songs like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Loser" (two of my all-time favorites) on the same list as MMMBop and Ice Ice Baby. LOL. It's a diverse list :)
very cool
Yes it is always relaxing to listen these GREAT bands forever....poseidon
great list of songs, brings back memories of the good old days.
Cool list - but how do you tell the difference between 85 and 75. Aren't these ratings totally subjective?
This is the perfect application for tivo.. Record it all, fast foward through the commercials and you can get through all 100 in less than 2 hours...
this list sucks. VH1 sucks. these guys promote awful music. backstreet boys on 3rd place. I think it shows how bad the list and the people in VH1 are.
This list was a load of rubbish and proof that MTV and VH1 just ruins what is good about music. How did Nsnyc beat Radiohead?? Where's Pulp, Blur, The La's, Stone Roses, Placebo ETC? Why is wonderwall so far up the list and don't look back in anger not even on there for Oasis??This list is utter shite. Fact. Only about 5 of the songs on it deserve to be on the list. This compliation is so shameful, the 90's was an excellent decade for music, on of the best and yet some idiots who apparently know so much about 'great' music comes up with this. I mean backstreet boys THIRD?? They were CRAP, their songs were for 8 year olds. How anyone can think this legitimate or correct is beyond me.
I just love this list. Man have I got some shopping to do. Thank you. Mon.
I think I saw this. Never agreed with Backstreet Boys being at #3 though.
Nirvan is one of my favorites..
Jabari and josie know what's up.
The list is total BS. I would rather hear what 100 songs the thinking public likes.
Zombie Pop Culture!
ah........the 90's. Better than today's music in my opinion.
i was born in the 90s great stufffff.
Hey, thanks for taking us down memory lane!
nuthin but a g thang is one of the few rap songs i actually like. It deserved to be this high on this list.
A perfect score of 100 congratulations rb! I hated VH-1's list but I love your hub and furthermore would love to see YOUR favorite 100 or even 50 songs!
Show me what ya got!
You are so much more interesting than VH-1!
Well I have to choose (from the list) Red Hot Chili Peppers "Under the Bridge"... I still often ear it. Great hub!
That was something for me. Thanks for your list!
Pearl Jam was the best grunge band that came out of the 90s. I still dig their music.
It should've been called "VH1's 100 most popular songs of the 90's" MMMBop a GREAT song? Uhhh...
Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is the best....i love it...
where are the wallflowers - one headlight?
... and what about duran duran? brandy & monica?
How do you have a list of VH1's 100 greatest songs of the 90s and do not include a group like Boyz II Men, but you put En Vogue on there. End of the Road, I'll Make to You, or Motownphilly. This list is flawed. That's such an insult.
SMASHING PUMPKINS anyone? Come on. The bigest and best band of the era couldn't land with "1979", "Mayonnaise", or "Disarm". And no Boyz II Men is a damn shame too. This list is a grave error.
i just want everyone to know that vh1 didnt make up this list.. people voted on it. so how about everyone stop blaming vh1 for coming up with a bad list!! if you dont like it then you should have voted for it yourself
Don't forget about the Stone Temple Pilots. Come on! They were awesome! Something like "Plush" would have been good.
cher has the most sucesufull song 20 million copies of belive is sold and she made a new style in pop music with vokoder efect....and onlly on 75 in list...its a shame
o god thats a great list im a big 90s fan too i hav like all of them but i think slide by goo goo dolls is easly the best and its not in there haha good hub
omg this song is like my itunes n the ones i dnt have that are on this list i want right now!! great list great thought process also i agree with me mate joeseph weres slide best song. also were eagle eye cherry save tonight greatest song EVER
I Should have came in first
the list was real good... lots of good memories...
but what about CRASH INTO ME? -dave matthews band... or ALL FOR YOU - sister hazel!
ah! && i agree save tonight needed to be on there too.. & some boys II men
No Tool? How can there be no Tool?
Nirvana made it high soo yeah boy and backstreet homos suck and alice in chains should have been higher and yeah smashing pumpkins at least today would have been good and i wish Dead and bloated would have made it
I can not believe there is no Aerosmith songs??????'
Crazy and Crayin'..............................................
whats the song on here about the couple that runs away???
I still can't believe that Savage Garden's "Truly Madly Deeply" didn't make the list. Not only should it have been included, but it would have made my top 20. That song is quintessential 90's! And no "Crash" by DMB?
Closer from Nine Inch Nails didn't make the list?
This list fails.
These songs for the most part ARE the growing pains of my early adult life... but alot and I do mean alot are just plain Jane pop culture. There are some true geniouses though.
what about Aerosmith's Crazy, Cryin' and Amazing??? When I think of the 90's that's all that comes to my mind
hanson "mmmbop"? You're kidding, right?
NO Smashing Pumpkins?! WTF? Jewel sounds like a cow in a blender. Remember when that moron got clowned by Kurt Loder? HAHA, idiot.
Smashing Pumpkins are infinitely better than half this list.
How do you have a top 90's list with no boyz II men? not ONE Nas song? illmatic? this list is flawed big time
How the hell does JEFF BUCKLEY not make this list. I am fine with most the list but how can he not make it. "Hallelujah", "Lover You Should Have Come Over", "Last Goodbye", any one of those
yogbgbgtgrfgvgrfgv
where is guns n roses?
fuckin vh1
the thing about an online poll seems a little hard to believe to me... It weird songs like Living La Vida Loca> and Wonderwall were ranked so low on the list, while it's surprising that many forgotten artists like C+C music factory, Snow or some good but not so famous artists like Liz Phair, Dunkan Sheik or Marcy's playground did appear in a list that doesn't feature any Smashing Pumpkins, Blind Melon, Foo fighters, STP, NIN, Dave Mathews Band, Blur, RATM, Offspring other things to mention about the list: 1.-they ranked "Time of your life" by Green day but they didn't rank "Basket Case" which is a much bigger hit2.-No songs by the Smashing Pumpkins, Foo fighters, STP, NIN, Dave Mathews Band were ranked3.-"You oughtta know" is my favourite Alanis M. song, but i thought "Ironic" was a much bigger hit. wasn't it?4.- What happend to songs like "Runaway Train" or "Plush" or "No Rain" "Song 2" or "prett Fly for a white guy?? ?? all of them were big?? weren't they?
That list is not good, how in the world it is possible that they do this countdown and do not include don´t speak- no doubt, i cannot believe it, and the backstreet boys on the 3??? there is Definitively somethin' wrong with that list
where is live forever and don't look back in anger by Oasis?in bloom nad come as you are by Nirvana? My iron lung, just, the bends, high and dry and paranoid android by Radiohead?i believe i can fly by R kelly?why is backstreet boys, britney spears and spice girls on the list?CRAP!!!
how dare VH1 left out TEARS IN HEAVEN by ERIC CLAPTON???where basket case by green day?
WTF? No NIN, no Smashing Pumpkins, no Guns N' Roses, no Basket Case, no Offspring and let's assume it: Limp Bizkit was big at the end of the 90's.
Living Colour? Nope.
Stone Temple Pilots? Nope.
Dude, this is like... the worst list ever.
This list really suck!!!
Vh1 you've done it again, ommitted most of the greatest bands singers and perfomers that really matter in time and put special attention on the billboards.
Congrats vh1!! ("music" channel my ass!!)
I've got a few questions for u all:
What about no mercy? what about Ace of Base? what about Reel 2 Real??
What about Gangsta Paradise from Coolio????
And what about the freekin Macarena from Los del Rio?????????????
I MEAN COME ON THIS LIST IS LACKING MOST OF THE 90's REALLY GOOD MUSIC
Dudes... what about "Bitter Sweet Symphony" The Verve?
i quite agree with this people about the list... its not that great'
80 out of 100 are pure rubbish... and they missed (besides Jeff Buckley, the Verve, Offspring and many others already pointed out) the greatest rock albums of the first nineties. REM (Losing my religion is NOT on the list???), Queen (almost the whole Innuendo album should be there) are totally ignored in favour of BACKSTREET BOYS?
Um...where is Savage Garden. They only had how many # ones?
This should be called most pop songs from the 90's, greatest?!?! how can it be the greatest songs from the 90's with no songs like "november rain" or "plush". hell guns and roses should have 5 songs on here, list is a joke, its for people who just listen to mainstream pop rock
hey where the hell is bittersweet symphony and they got thata shit of sinhead oconnor and how in jesus name wonderwall is so far from the first place it should be at least in top ten. and come on i dont want to miss a thing what the hell were they thinking.
1979 by The Smashing Pumpkins should be in that list...
where ?? nookie, no rain, today, vow, song 2
"Drax says:
WTF? No NIN, no Smashing Pumpkins, no Guns N' Roses, no Basket Case, no Offspring and let's assume it: Limp Bizkit was big at the end of the 90's.
Living Colour? Nope.
Stone Temple Pilots? Nope.
Dude, this is like... the worst list ever." Quote
totally agree with you! some good material are missing besides some of the songs in here were not so good
i agree that nirvana shoud have gotten number one!! (:
lol nirvana did get #1 i was born in the 90's and i love/know almost all the songs on there!! u go vh1!!!!! and i have some of the cd's well ok nsync chrisdtina agublahblAH and backstreet boys lol only 12 lol
lol nirvana did get #1 i was born in the 90's and i love/know almost all the songs on there!! u go vh1!!!!! and i have some of the cd's well ok nsync chrisdtina agublahblAH and backstreet boys lol only 12 lol
savage garden ???
don´t cry . guns ????
what´s up . 4 non blondes ????
Offspring ??? Limp Bizkit ??? blur??? Aerosmith ?????
I think that I owned every one of those CD at one time! I still have most of them.
WONDERWALL was placed on the 35th position??????????????? IT`S THE GREATES SONG OF THE 90th`s!
THIS LIST SUCKS
EXCELENTE!
Some good songs listed, but man they always leave off so much. They obviously completely ignored the entire shoegazer scene and didn't touch on Brit-pop at all save for Oasis. They always do that ...... for prove see the 80's list ... NOT ONE FUCKING SMITHS SONG, are you kidding me?!?!?!
How is there no limp bizkit?
Faith should of been on there right next to Freak on a leash by Korn. This list blows, many other artist are lacking.
Why no songs by the Cure? Lovesong? shiite!
ok say my name is a great song... but it didnt chart in the 90's!! it was RECORDED in 99' it charted in 2000!! sheesh thought it was the 90s not new millenium!!!
Where the hell is juicy by Biggy, November rain by GNR and Boz ll men end of the road. The backstreet boys at #3 seems off they didn't have the third best song of the 90's. And the biggest crime on this list wonderwall somehow got 35, it should drop 30 spots to number 5
great list, I love many of the songs that you've lsited
Normal list. But where's Bloodhound Gang - "Fire water burn" and Fun Lovin Criminals - "Scooby Snacks"?
might wanna calm down with ur language Jeriel YES!!! Im talking to you!!
The Backstreet Boys at Number??? Umm....That I do not get!!
Ummm... where are: "No Rain" by Blind Melon, "The Rockafela Skank" by Fat Boy Nookie" by Limp Bizkit, "Ants Marching" by DMB,
AND the BEST selling single EVER! which was NUMBER ONE on VH1's own "100 Greatest One Hit Wonders" list... "The Macarena"! These just popped to the top of my head.
love some...hate some, but all-in-all pretty cool
dibididipdibidibidibidabadabadaba!
I think they accidentally deleted their top 5: No Doubt "Don't Speak", Smashing Pumpkins "1979", Nine Inch Nails "Closer", Soul Asylum "Runaway Train", Boyz II Men "I'll Make Love To You"...
Where's Garth Brooks "Friends In Low Place"? That song changed country music. If Achy Breaky Heart made it, this songs should definitely be on the list.
your gonna sit there and tell me that iris from the goo goo dolls was not even on the list!!! are you out of your motha phuckin mind!!!
soooo they have en vogue but no rage against the machine. . . .i think that list list should take songs that are still incredibly popular into account liike creep by radiohead is insanely popular and its only 31?. . . .No Nine INch Nails? Rage against the machine? Shmashing Pumpkins? The offspring? cmon VH1!. . . .and why was "I alone" by Live on there and not "Lighning crashes" which if i can recall was a massive hit
Better list than that ridiculous 80s list. Houston doesn't belong here, certainly not above "Nothing Compares 2 U," which truly is one of the 10 best. Actually 1/2 of the Top 10 is legit, I'm not sure there was anything in the Top 10 on the 80s aside from "When Doves Cry" and "Bille Jean" that was even decent.
Obviously Celine, Mariah and VAnilla don't belong here either but at least a lot of these are indeed great.
Mariah Carey should have had at least 5 songs in there.
Always Be My Baby, Vision of Love, Emotions, Fantasy, One Sweet Day
Janet Jackson should have had 2 songs in there
Scream (With Michael Jackson), Thats the way Love goes
And I Will Always Love You should have been number one.

some great songs listed here!! some fantastic memories of my childhood too, especially songs like 'Wonderwall' and 'Smells like Teen Spirit'. I think Backstreet Boys do deserve a place in the list, but with 'Backstreets Back' instead- what a tune!! Also, what about all the classic 90's dance tracks like 'No Limits' by 2Unlimited? Or 'Set you Free' by NTrance?
Ah nostalgia
WHY THE HELL IS JANET JACKSON NOT IN THERE???SHE'S THE SECOND MOST SUCCESFUL ARTIST OF THE 90'S NEXT TO MARIAH CAREY!!!
VH1 is trippin.. sublime were HUGE in the 90s... ridiculus
Why not November Rain of Guns N Roses? Is ridiculus..this song is the best of 90s and even stay in the top 10.
How "1979" by Smahsing Pumpkins was left off this list is beyond me. This list is horrible. "Wonderwall" should be much higher
Um...NIN please? Maybe The Perfect Drug, or at least Closer? Maybe I ran in weird circles, but I remember both of those videos being big and the songs were all over the radio.
there's not one single "No Doubt" song on this list, but somehow songs by britney, nsync, and backstreet boys make it on? .......
What are you smokin VH1?
I can understand a majority of the picks for this list, but I do have a question...no Garbage?? They had several killer singles out in the mid 90's and I believe they deserve a spot on the list
No Sublime??!?! wtf??
billc - lovesong was released in 1989.
cranberries - 'linger'
KD lang - 'constant craving'
Janet Jackson - 'thats the way love goes'
NIN - 'closer'
^should have all been on the list
oh 'linger' - is already there
my bad
Pearl Jam-Alive
Goo Goo Dolls- Black Balloon
Sublime- What I Got
where are all of these?
Come on, where's Seal? Kissed by a rose, Crazy?
You people do realize that this was voted on by the public eight?
umm i do believe "closing time" by semisonic should be top 40, let alone not even on the list! wonderwall deserves better than 35 say 10-20 range, sublime should be represented, and they give too much slack to crap bands that were on the radio. And even if it is the most annoying song of the 90's, Smash Mouths "All Star" should be on the list
oh and forgot. Last Kiss by Pearl Jam. Sure it was a cover of the 60's original, but for those who have heard it can agree that it deserves recognition
ok listen people voted for this on vh1's website.because most of those people don't have any musical taste what do you expect.even i would voted for would.fear of the dark, thunderstruck, hard as a rock, fuel, get a grip, sex type thing, hangar 18,sleep now in the fire, painkiller, and for many songs of the offspring
I was brought up on mostly 80s music. There are so very good songs though in the 90s. A lot of people were so into the Internet because it first came out in the mid 90s, that I think we missed a lot of the great songs.
how come all the small things isnt on the list, its way better than most of the songs on this list
i imagine i'd get stick for this, whilst i can't argue with the list, i do find it weird that michael jackson - in particular "black or white" isn't on here.
Okay wait, I didn't read all the comments but I did notice people complaining that certain songs didn't make it on the list but "they were top songs back then," or "this song wasn't at (whatever position) back then." You have to remember, people WENT ONLINE and VOTED for their favorite songs and whoever got whatever percentage of votes was put in that position. VH1 did nothing except calculate the list and air it.
I love how absolutely terrible this list is. And how totally predictable it is. Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears are both in the top ten. Enough said.
Well they forgot Queensryche "silent lucidity" it only won MTV's peoples choice award in 1991 beating out songs on this list
How did none of the songs from OK Computer make it on here? That album basically reinvented a genre. Or even The Bends...
90s were awesome
i wuz in high school when teen spirit wuz made. man everyone was crazy bout that song. just felt like yeterday class of 1991
what about a-ha or yes or aerosmith! WTF! todays society should burn with this rap shit
They should update the top 100 list and let us do the voting.
what about saved by the bell
brian wuz born 2001 he dont know shit
brian wuz born 2001 he dont know shit
brian sucks kara sucks korn
Iris by the goo goo dolls was 39?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
How did Dave Matthews Band not make the list. Along with Eric Clapton, Blind Mellon, and Smashing Pumpkins. What the hell really look at the billboard charts and redo the show more accurate. This is not a complete list VH1 you really suck.
Where the hell is G n R??
This is the most stupid list I have ever seen. Bone Thugs N Harmony is arguably the best Rap/Hip Hop group and their song "Tha Crossroads" released in 1996 was the fastest rising single in History and the group received a Grammy Award for the song. It just goes to show you how stupid VH1 is and everybody who works there. Fucking idiots

Also I forgot to mention BTH, they have to be on the list. Please fix it and do the show again.

where's Reel Big Fish?
AWESOME LIST I LOVED IT BUT WHERE WAS NO DOUBT AT I THINK THEY LEFT ONE OUT
where is INXS?
Kiss From a Rose by Seal should definitely be on there, and where is Selena?????
soul to squeeze? where the hell is that
whoever says this is a good list are out of there mind
they didnt put some of the biggest bands of the 90's
offsprings, smashing pumpkins, aerosmith made some hits in the 90's and so did metallica
what a terrible list
teen spirit is my favorite
i like most of the songs on here but where is TLC's "creep?"
this is where Toni Braxton? : @ I think the name of it ¬ ¬ '
good list but backstreet boys and NSYNC. cmon.....
It's an OK list, I love the 90's!!!
What an amazing decade!!!!!
no rage against the machine? the offspring? nine inch nails?
sos puro rap
No Marilyn Manson??
The people that commented are all ruh-tards (watch the hangover). Most of the comments go thusly, "wtf, where's <insert random song name>, etc." If they bothered to scroll up and down they would see there is barely any consistency in the songs that were supposedly left out. And theres like hundreds of songs to choose from. Did they stop to think the list can only be so long? Yeah some songs will get left out. The only thing that got left out with with any aggreable between post consistency was the verve's bittersweet symphony. Wow you turds agree on one song that got left out. One dude even said a song got left out that was ON THE FREAKING LIST. Please stop and think before you post your inane comments and do me a favor and stfu anyway just in case.
This has to be one of the worst lists I have seen in a long time.
What about Bush-Glycerine
only one biggie song? i could have sworn he was one of the greatest rappers in history
No Marilyn Manson? He was probably one of the BIGGEST spectacles of the 90's
My Own Worst Enemy? good song
I wish Blink-182 was on this list! Who doesn't love What's My Age Again?!
wheres stone temple pilots!!!
the list isnt all that bad. im sure they were only going with one song per band/singer and they were probably going with all around popularity with the masses. but the bloodhound gang's bad touch should have been on the list.
WHAT THE HELL HAPPEND TO "LOU BEGA MAMBO No5"
Yes, I have a definite problem with Smashing Pumpkins not even making this list. And Everlong also deserved to reach the list, and the patronising "at least it made #104" token clip was very undeserved. Time of Your Life is most definitely, in my opinion, a way better Green Day hit, but I assume people agreed with me, which is why Basket Case didn't make the cut? I also assume they preferred not to have more than one song by an artist on the list, because I would definitely have put Come as You Are and Rape Me on that list, to add to the Nirvana. The complete lack of the Offspring hits also irked me, as did the fact that an awesome song like Iris was beaten by Christina Aguilera. In a song that wanted you to "rub her the right way". Moreover, the fact that Guns N Roses, Nine Inch Nails, Aerosmith, Marilyn Manson, Placebo, Limp Bizkit, Incubus, etc didn't appear on the list makes me feel that they picked some Rock favourites, then totally ignored others of the genre.
And also-No Bjork. It's Oh So Quiet? Whaaat?
Finally: Sweet Dreams-Eurythmics. HOW DID THAT NOT MAKE IT ONTO THIS LIST?????
Whether it's VH1 or the voters who picked the songs isn't the problem. It's the total lack of representation this list provides. But who am I to say anything? I'm discovering these bands now, being about 6 when the nineties ended. And I can see a problem.
....dis is supposed 2 be da break out decde of hip-hop rising nd theirs is not alot of it........do"nt matter...also where is AALIYAH!!!!!!!????? Are you that somebody....One in a million.......two top songs
....dis is supposed 2 be da break out decde of hip-hop rising nd theirs is not alot of it........do"nt matter...also where is AALIYAH!!!!!!!????? Are you that somebody....One in a million.......two top songs

No Stone Temple Pilots? Aww. =(
That's disappointing... and The Offspring, either? Nine Inch Nails?
I wish both "Man in the Box", "Even Flow" and "Black Hole Sun" had been higher; those are amazing songs. And I'm really glad "Smells Like Teen Spirit" made it to the top. =D
-sigh- I still would have liked to see "Interstate Love Song", "Plush" or "Trippin' On a Hole in a Paper Heart" on here, though! And "Closer", "Only" or "Head Like a Hole"... still good though.
i am a chinese ! it is great! we can share these wonderful song s together ! thanks internet!!!!!!
just an ok list ! what about semisonic and new radicals.( kgn- jamaica)
the list B.S.... right songs...incorrect order
i think ace of base belonged there
i think ace of base belonged there
PEOPLE!! STOP BLAMING VH1 FOR THIS LIST! Vh1 put up 1000s of 90s songs up on there website and let the people of the public vote on the songs. So stop blaming vh1 and blame yourself for the list! And why bring MTV into the picture? That isnt even related you morons!! However, i do believe there is some faulties. Wonderwall needs top 10 material, and backstreet boys need to get into the 85-100 chunk of the list. However, i think the public got it right when they put smells like teen spirit as #1. I mean, come on. Nirvana is the king of 90s music. And, it put Washington (my home state) on the map. Seattle is the kingdom for grunge. Here are some songs that i think need to be on the list:
"Basket Case" - Green Day
"Song 2" - Blur
"Bittersweet Symphony" - The Verve
"Rump Shaker" - Wreckx-N-Effect
"I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" - Aerosmith
"Say It Ain't So" - Weezer
"All The Small Things" - Blink-182
"Lithium" - Nirvana
Any song from Boys II Men, and some Guns 'N' Roses.
Other than that, this list is ok.

This list is ridiculous...Zombie by The Cranberries should have definitely made this list.
what bout they might be the giants they played boss of me on malcom n da middle lol
Aerosmith, Offspring, Michael Jackson, and Smashing Pumpkins should of been on there
i loved nirvana but notorios big and tupac shakur should be here RIP tupac and biggie
I don't get why some many people are like "BackStreetBoys are number 3?!?!!? OMGWTFFF". Okay. Whether you liked them or not, they were insanely popular in the 90's. Many of their songs got so much airtime it's ridiculous. There are still fairly popular today, their last tour was sold-out.
It makes sense that they are #3 based on sheer popularity at the time and play time in the 90's.
I'm shocked Prozzak didn't make the list. They were so freaking popular in the 90s.
Glad to see Nirvana at number 1. There are so many songs I wished would've made the list... didn't even hear about the movie. Oh well. VH1/MTV/MuchMusic suck ass anyways.
No Our Lady Peace? No Clumsy or Superman's Dead? *Sigh*
I realize this list was a popular vote, but come on people?
BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY - THE VERVE
If the Verve had had it their way, they wouldn't have wanted the mainstream popularity that this song got.
But since the greedy Rolling Stone lawyers took the rights to the song, they spread the song around everywhere. It was on commercials and in movies and frickin' everywhere. People heard this song, they knew damn well it was an amazing song, but refused to vote for it.
This should show you the sad, sad state of music in America.
Its a crime that Bittersweet Symphony isnt on the list.
And All the Small Things or another Blink 182 song-they were 90's royalty.
most of that was rap crap. and bubblegum pop. only like, i don't know, 20 of those songs where good. no interstate love song? why no STP? what the hell?
The 90s! My favorite decade for music!! I must say though, most of this was pop that im not really a fan of, and i was dissapointed that red hot chilli peppers and bnl (to name a few) were only on there once, but, itw was an entertaining show to watch, i loved hearing what everyone had to say about all the music! not a bad way to spend an afternoon, well done vh1
i figured something out, VH1 should show a program and make it 90s week or something, get all the 90s songs that made any impact put that list on shuffle and just let it go through :D
Come on, dave matthews band should have totally been on there. and i definitely agree, bittersweet symphony should have been on the list. great songs!
WHERE'S THE BLINK 182!?!?!?!?!
This is dumest list of all time. You are telling me that the best group of the 90s didnt have one song that made the list?
Sarah McLachlin - Possession
How did the real slim shady not make this list
Arguably the worst list ever.
I have to admit there are some great songs on this list... but this is what public voting does. There are a lot of great songs not on here from STP, pumpkins, foo fighters, etc.
Yall need to stop getting mad. VH1 put the songs on list of chart popularity mainly. Alot of rap songs didn't fair high on the charts. So this list is kinda correct. And grunge and alternative was the most popular genre so it is fitting that it got alot of songs.

I was born in 89 so to me this list is perfect cause when Backstreet boys and Nsync and all bubblegum pop was big I LOVED it but i was also in elementary school. Hey TRL played them all religiously and those record sales were ridiculous radios played them constantly I'm sorry but I agree with it plus these songs were all voted for by fans so that must mean you guys that disagree with this list didn't take the time to vote so you only have yourselves to blame don't get me wrong I had an older sister who listened to Green Day,No Doubt, Nirvana and eventually so did I but this list is my childhood to a perfect T.
where's "i touch myself" from divynils in this rank? i think this song is awesome and better that much others from this list
where are the smashing pumpkins one of the most important bands of the 90s, and why are all this horrible rap songs in better position that some of the greatest rock songs of all time

okay, i am really sick of everybody trashing the backstreet boys. their songs are fun, they have almost no meaning, but their fun to sing aloung to and to dance to. so stop trashing them for being in third place, everybody secretly enjoys the music. and this list rocked have most of the songs! (;
wot a shit list
good list for the most part. i only disagree with the backstreet boys at #3 and that november rain by guns n roses and i dont wanna miss a thign by aerosmith. glad enter sandman by metallica was on there, what a freakin great song!! i wish motley crue had a good 90s song but they dont.
no tiene sentido, donde quedan michael, janet jackson, aerosmith, bon jovi, que mamadas
And No GIN BLOSSOMS? WHAT HAPPENED TO HEY JEALOUSY? and Found out about you?
I would say this needs Blind Melon 'no rain', 4 non blonds 'Whats up'
I just wanted to say my twelve year old brother could have put the top 100 90's songs together better than VH1 veiwers. The problem is only a few people actually logged on to their website to vote for the top songs... these people were completely mistaken in their accuracy of good music. First of all so many great bands are missing and a lot of the good ones on there should have been a lottttt higher. VH1 should have seen the results to the top 100 votes and decided that people are not capable of voting properly and made their own lists based on factual evidence and which songs were in fact awesome. Come on, you know a bunch of teens made the backstreet boys so high. Look at cd's they sell in stores of good 90's music, you don't see the backstreet boys because they were just a teen fantasy of a hot body and semi-okay songs. Nothing more. I vote VH1 makes their own list and the veiwers can suck it up and accept their precious boy band fantasy did not make good music. Yes they were popular... but to get the #3 spot???? Sickining. In no way shape or form do they deserve to be higher than half the people on that list.
What about "It must have been love" from Roxette??? C'mon! This list sucks!
This list sucks. If music was really this bad in the 90's i would have slit my wrists to save my ears...
all the peps disin this list need to take a look back at some vids nirvana, backstreet boys, barenaked ladies, matchbox twenty they all laid a platform for todays music. This list was bsed on the thoughts of selected people if you don`t like it make your own damn list and stop complaining.

Where's Plush by Stone Temple Pilots?? wtf!
tech n9ne shulda made top 10
and coolio eazy e nwa pac number 1 this is bullshit as rap had 90s
hello!
weres dont speak (no doubt)
WHAT ABOUT PEARL JAM????
if Number 1 Hadn't Been Nirvana i Would've Been Pissed !! Majority Of These Songs Are in The Wrong Order, i Mean Seriously There's Some Crap Songs in The List, But We All Know Them Don't We Nd Most Are Good - Long Live The 90's !!!
One sweet day by Mariah Carey and boyz to men was number 1 for 16 weeks in a row that is a record. Maybe I missed it but if that song is not on the list then why even make a top songs of the 90s list becasue that was clearly one of them.
smells like teen spirit son!!! but i cant believe theres no Sublime on there:( or Jumper by third eye blind
i loved the song choices; so many memories
This is a great list and as one of the "older" viewers who can actually remember the 90's all the way through, I think it's a great list (with the exception of missing Boyz II Men).
I just find it funny that so many people are commenting on the list that "insert singer/song here" should have been on the list, yet I doubt any of you voted for the top 100 songs. Also, the same people look like fools when they can't even spell correctly. I take this list more seriously than half the comments on this page.
P.S. - For those of you that are complaining about the Backstreet Boys and Britney spears being on the list, you know that you're the same people who were begging your parents to take you to those concerts 10 years ago and rushing home from school just so you can see who was #1 on TRL so stop complaining when you know you supported them. It's not all about rock, rap, and/or alternative music. Grow up!
Break it Down Again by TFF! Hello! Amazing fun, catchy, song!
Fantastic i thought i was doing ok with just the billboards list but now that all use's have commented ive now got the ultimate 90's collection cheers
i guess Crash into Me was not as popular as i thought it was. I remember being a little kid and always hearing "Crash" playing on the radio and in my house...the memories
you know what i realized that most songs on there thats the artist only hit or they don't record anymore
you know what i realized that most songs on there thats the artist only hit or they don't record anymore
most of the rock is good on here but where's
foo fighters
rollins band
aerosmith
the white stripes
i live in the music era it fucking so
i PRAISE this list
do you know what shit we have to listen to now
i wish i was there to see all the greats perform because
some don't perform anymore or some are R.I.P
but this is what i turn to eighties and nineties
the GOLDEN AGE OF MUSIC hell yeh
Folks, this isn't the 100 greatest songs of the 90's list.
It's the most 100 popular.
And there's still no Red Hot Chili Peppers, No Tupac, and no Boyz II Men. This list is off.
Oops! I saw RHCP. But, there's still no Pac or Boyz II Men.
How are you going to talk about 90's songs and they aren't on there. Vh1 makes some pathetic lists.........
And by the way, don't diss Waterfalls. It might not be what your into, but that song does have some meaning to it.....
How is Thong Song not on here? That was the jam for several of my college Spring Breaks
Where's No Doubt????
Smells Like Teen Spirit, Enter Sandman and Creep are my favorite
okay people who are saying crap like you should have let the public choose and stuff yeah the public did choose they had a poll so shutup losers and besides all you that said bad stuff are probably just into one kind of music be more versatile
Where is Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence?
Srsly it should be on the list!
ummmm
seriously
blink 182 and sublime should have been there
and creed NIN depeche mode and more U2
stupid list
wheres SUBLIME? Even though they hated mainstream stuff, they had a songs like santeria, what I got, date rape. cmon now.......Keep sublime alive and long live the brad!
how isnt guns n roses on here? november rain priceless love song and others to mention
Just curious why man in the box is on in there instead of Rooster or No Excuses, don't get me wrong its a great song but not their best.
tears in heaven is too good for this list anyways
Everlong, all my life, monkey wrench, and my hero by foo fighters all couldve easily made this list.. Everlong should be top 20
You guys are such dicks for whinging! If you dont like the list then deal with it! It is top 100 songs...which means they cant fit everything.
WHERE IS SCATMAN JOHM??!
where the hell is Angels??? and Back For Good??? and Wind Of Change???!!!!!
WHERE IS ALL THE BLINK-182?!?!?!
No Rain by Blind Melon should be there. Not only is it one of the greatest songs of the 90's, but I think that it is the greatest song ever made.
scat man has a point, where is he? lol
Yeah this list sucks and all, but I've got to do something no one else has done yet (that I've seen). And therefore, I give MAAAD props to Radiohead for making it. They deserve it, if not more, and apparantly VH1 has never heard of "Just", "Fake Plastic Trees", "High and Dry", "No Surprises", "Karma Police" or "Paranoid Android".
ok i get it the backstreet boys were popular but
NO#3 are u kidding me
sure the song would be on the list not that high
i mean they have little childrens songs beat all time classics?
.....
.....
oh shut the fuck up all the backstreet boys' haters. just because you dont like them doesn't mean that they "don't deserve" to be in this list. they were insanely popular in the 90s, being the most successful band of all times and hell yeah, it's because they make GOOD music. i'm not saying that others don't, but get out, they DO deserve the #3 position
and added to that, have you ever really listened to Backstreet Boys' songs, or you just "oh damn, another gay band..." and skip them? you guys want your fav to be on the list, but don't be like kids to deny how well others have done. you people disgust me
i still can't believe that bittersweet symphony didn't make the list!
You guys know that listing out what should have been on the list isn't going to magically change the list. But I was born in the 90's and you are all right, some of the songs that were higher up there did suck.
Excuse me, but how about "Creep" and "No Scrubs" by TLC I know you guys remeber those
This is the shit. the songs today make the 90s song curdle in the grave. In 2020 this music will rise again...
its the top 100 most popular songs of the 90's not your personal favorite songs of the 90's...its not gonna include random radiohead tracks and the only rock songs are gonna be ones that crossed over to pop...same with rap...sure they missed some songs but overall pretty accurate !!!
Where is the #1 best selling song of the entire decade on this list!? NOWHERE and why not? BRYAN ADAMS- EVERYTHING I DO
Backstreet boys defiantly deserve the number 3 spot...if not higher. That song, and all song released in the 90's, were HUGE!!! They just released an AMAZING new CD and are still on tour.
I look at this list and agree with most of it but where is Bone Thugs N' Harmony's - Tha Crossroads? That was the biggest one of if not the biggest song during 96-97.
electric slide, Incubus-Drive, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, friends in low places, one sweet day, boot scoot boogie, etc? WTF
WHERE ARE THE SMASHING PUMPKINS!!!!!!!???????? THEY ARE THE BEST BAND EVER! EVERY SINGLE SONG OFF OF GISH, SIAMESE DREAM, AND MCIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THERE!!!!!! NIN, and Dave Matthews should also be on there. SP FOREVERRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
where's Give It Away!?!?
and everlong should have been up there w/wonderwall
(me n my girl's songs)
This list blows. No Sublime, really? They could have easily replaced all the crap pop with more grunge and angry chick music. That (along with the hiphop, though I agree Crossroads by Bone Thugs deserved to be on that list) really encapsulated the 90's. Though the Britney Spears, N*Suck came out late 90's, the pop craze was really the dawn of the 2000's.
Disappointing...
I did not completely agree with this list but I really loved the show..I was thoroughly entertained..
I hate how these American have never heard of Robbie Williams
I hate how these Americans don't rate Robbie Williams. Angels is better than most of these songs on the list
Where is TOOL?? Stinkfist, Sober, Prison Sex??? TOOL was the best band in the 90's and they still rock today!
You have Britney and Backstreet Boys at the top10, but no Ace of Base on the list at all? Weird
how does Everlong by the Foo Fighters "barely" miss the cut, that song is definately top 30, and britney and backstreet boys on top 10 even when i get high i cant stand that shit!
One of the best song lists that I have ever seen.
Thanks VH1
:)
One of the best song lists that I have ever seen.
Thanks VH1
:)
How can Scorpions' Wind of Change (1990) not be included? It should be Number 1!
This is the 100 greatest songs of the 90's meaning the most popular not your favorite songs of the 90's. I don't like it either but i think its accurate.
Although where the hell is Stone Temple Pilots?
Interstate Love Song, Plush, Big Empty all capable of being in the top 50!
November Rain by GNR, Cherub Rock by Smashing Pumpkins, alot more grunge and less pop.
pretty shocked at the fact that semisonic - closing time, the wallflowers - one headlight , and smashing pumpkins - 1979 didn't make the list. so many defining songs of that generation got left out it's pretty crazy.

where is scorpions?wind of change
especially gnr use your illusion 1-2 are the officially best selling albums in 90's!!
The Verve's BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY isn't in this group? After they got ripped off by the Rolling Stones who stole the rights to the group and basically shut them down?
One of the best songs, comparable to "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Best lyrics, and a hook that sticks in your mind forever.... and you like it.
WTF !!!!! blind melon - no rain
!!! unbealievable
where is GARBAGE?? unbealievable!!
where is GARBAGE??
omfg wonderwall had to be on the top 5 its a fucking huge song
you guys need to chill out. vh1 or any other network would never clearly get any list right. they need to tend to the general population which means putting some awful songs on the list. anyone who takes this seriously and gets mad is a bonehead even though the list is clearly wrong.
Unless Im just completely mistaken, why is pearl jam not on this list?
wazzap offspring???
Very bad list. All of this songs are hits, but what happen with the less famous one. And how can be in the list spice girl, backstreet boys(number 3), madonna, w.houston,b. spears, that is shit music.
WHERE are Faith no more, OK computer songs, Morrissey, Slayer, Jeff Buckley, Mr bungle, Sonic youth, Tool, Dream Theater, Primus, etc etc etc
Smashing Pumpkins, Blur, No Doubt, Garbage, The Offspring... Rage Against the Machine?...I think that some songs have to be there, but othes don't... We need another count :P
wow pearl jam not even at the top 10??

ESTO ES UNA MIERDA COMO SELES OCURRE COLOCAR A CHER EN EL PUESTO PUTO NUMERO 71 CON SU COLOSAL BELIEVE!!!!!!11 SI TODO EL FUCKING MUNDO CONOCE ESE TEMA!!!!!!1 QUE LES PASA A LOS FUKER DE VH1??????? SI CHER ES CHER, DEVERIA ESTAR EN MINIMO EN LOS 5 LUGARES UN FUKING RESPETO POR LA DIVA!
Black or White Michael Jackson. The song peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, as well as in 18 other countries.
REALLY !!! WHERES CREED WITH ARMS WIDE OPEN REALLY THEY OWN THE 90s BILLBOARD LIST
WHERE IS BLINK 182 AT THEY WERE/STILL ARE THE MOST AMAZING TALENTED SEXY FUN LOVING GUYS TO EVER COME AROUND?!?!?!
WHERE IS BLINK 182 AT THEY WERE/STILL ARE THE MOST AMAZING TALENTED SEXY FUN LOVING GUYS TO EVER COME AROUND?!?!?!
Exactly Where is at least ALL THE SMALL THINGS by blink-182 alot of people know that song even if they dont like blink.
wallflowers-one headlight
What the hell...where is Biggie's Juicy!?!?!?
where is mj????
okay.. agreed, where where the wallflowers, dmb, blind mellon, even blink 182 and i never even liked them that much. they helped define the era! the fact that the pumpkins were not on the list is complete ridiculousness- they WERE the 90s!
How the hell can "I'm too sexy" be that high on this list, and Everlong is completely absent, Just because something was high on the charts doesn't make it good. Surfin' Bird from Family Guy was #4 and that song is TERRIBLE. Every list I've seen from VH1 is full of fail. Just like the Pro Bowl, fan voting is a joke.

YOU CANT BE SERIOUS?! Savage Garden didnt make the list? Truly, Madly Deeply didnt make the cut? Thats easily in the top 20. It was one of the most played songs in the US for a year straight. This list sucks.
If you're not going to have Smashing Pumpkins the best band of all time, then this is bullshit. You have Hanson on here 2, The jo bros of the 90's. failed... just, failed
Where in the world is Ace of Base on the list? That band was huge in the 90s!
seriously. no smashing pumpkins, sublime, STP, garbage, creed, radiohead, the offspring. and BLINK 182! come on people, its not VH1s fault. but who are the idiots who left these people off the list?
whatever happened to black and white by michael jackson? thats 1991. that should of been number 1
love almost every song on here! just downloaded 79 of them!
I can not believe no Dave Matthews Band anywhere on the list. And no Smashing Pumpkins either. Wow
zombie - the cranberries
I agree with Chris 100 percent. They are the best band of all time. The hell with VH1, for not putting the almighty Smashing Pumpkins on the list.
WHERE IS GARBAGE??? "I think I'm paranoid", "Stupid girl", "Push it"??? C'mon!!
ok now...while i do agree that there are a lot of missing songs i remember singing along with backstreet boys (even if i hate to admit it) i dont however think they should be #3! way better songs than that got passed over!
Also should be on this list Queen's "The show must go on" and No Doubt's "Don't speak"
I seriously feel like kicking many of you people's teeth!^^^
of course your favorite bands and songs aren't gonna be on
hear its the 100 greatest songs the most popular even if the songs suck they have to put them! wtf someone said Slayer? wtf there nowhere near having one of the greatest 90's songs. The only flop vh1 made was not putting any Stone Temple Pilots Plush or Interstate Love Song and Smashing Pumpkins CHerub Rock or 1979
VH1 compiles their list based on Sales, Radio play, and people whining. The reason your favorite songs aren't on the list people is because some people bought more albums by these artists, some radio stations played more songs by these guys, and more people hung out on VH1.com whining about how awesome these guy's songs were. I absolutely hate half the songs on that list but truth be told the 8 year olds that listened to back street boys bought more records than i did, requested more songs than I did, and by god they waste their lives on VH1.com more than I do. don't blame music experts because their measurement tools are accurate. whiny teenagers with bad taste and excess allowances drive the music industry...

What a load of shite. Oasis were by far the bset band in the 90's. Also Wonderwall is no wear near their best song. What about Some Might Say, Live Forever, Don't Look Back In Anger, Supersonic, Champagne Supernova, Roll With It and many more.

Y Ramon Ayala? los cadetes de Linares?? Bronco?
The song about the runaway couple is "The Way" by Fastball.
how the hell didnt lullaby by shawn mullins and shimmer by fuel not get in that list?
Where's New Kids on The Block???
NO MARILYN MANSON?!?!?!? He was the best! Lol, he even scared the hell out of the broadcast. They were probably too afraid to showcase him. But whatever, the mainstream will be mainstream.
So Marky Marky Mark is in the top 100 but Tori Amos is not.
Where is Garth Brooks? Wasn't he the top selling artist in the 90's? The best selling artist in America since 1991??? I would have loved to see him on this list. Billy Ray Cyrus??? c'Mon people!!!
How is Sublime's "What I Got" not on this list?????
how the hell is backstreet boys number three and michael jackson isnt even on the list what the hell
how the hell is backstreet boys number three and michael jackson isnt even on the list what the hell
SANTERIA by sublime has to be in top 10
Where's 1979; Don't Speak; What it's Like; Enter Sandman.
Arrrrgh! I'm fuming
hey, i kind of lyk alll this sonqss knowinqq that im only 12.
dave matthews band was a major part of 90's music. i dont understand how "ants marching" or "crash into me" didn't make the list.
What about Hole?!
Live through this was an amazing cd!!!
yo don't put song from fun factory on the list and no comment said about the band's song, are you kidding me. fun factory have some great song from the 90's. did anyone agree with me...
This list is brings back so much memories. Yes, I don't totally agree with it for example, I think Mariah should have placed at least in the top ten after all she did have the most number 1s in the decade. But hey, who am I to complain? It's not like I went on and voted. People are getting so upset over this when in the end, it's just a list.
where the hell is blink 182??????????
Where is Michael Jackson??
i believe Michael, is in a hole rotting in the ground.
WHERE IS SELENA!!!!!!! AND MICHAEL JACKSON!!!!
NO SMASHING PUMPKINS? Very bad !!! i dont understand this list!
Why don't they have more than one song by any particular artist?... I'm sure Lithium by Nirvana did much better than anything in the last half of the list... also Smashing Pumpkins, STP, and Rage against the machine should have been there somewhere... all 3 bands put out amazing albums that you could actually listen to all the way through without getting bored
wELL IS WHAT IT IS BUT THIS LIST WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE///
WHERE THE HELL IS SAVAGE GARDEN?!?!?!??!?!?!DONT YOU KNOW THAT IS ONE OF THE BEST OF THE 90'S?!?!?!?AND TRULY,MADLY,DEEPLY IS NOT ON THE LIST?!?!?!THE LIST SUCKS!!!
where is Jeff Buckley? Incubus? Smashing Pumpkins? Aerosmith?
utter shite list. radiohead's "creep" is no way near their best song. sure it's their most popular song. but does that make it their best song? i think not. i believe creep shouldn't be on there at all (but it's an ok song i guess). BUT, if it was the 100 most POPULAR songs of the 90's, then i would agree with it. smell's like teen spirit is a very overrated song. where is supergrass aswell? -.-
i guess it's not my opinion but not having creep on there and having radiohead's much better songs on there is pure FACT. -.-
Really? No "Walkin' on the Sun"?
wat ´bout LOS DE RIO ´´MACARENA´´ i thought it was a big bang in the 90s
wat ´bout LOS DE RIO ´´MACARENA´´ i thought it was a big bang in the 90s
i respect all of artist or song on this list but
no "HAPPY GONE" or "THAT'S THE TIME" from THE RELOAD OCTOBER, what the hell is going on??? this list is truly a joke...creep
everyone needs to stop hyping over michael jackson. hes dead. get over it.
I AM SURE WITH ALL OF THE SUGGESTIONS FOR WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE LIST VH1 COULD MAKE 3 OR 4 TOP 100 LISTS....BUT ITS TOP 100 NOT TOP 500 NOT TOP 1000...PPL VOTED AND THATS HOW THE RESULTS CAME OUT.....
for sure should have had no doubt dont speak or spiderwebs or just a girl and blink all the small things. blur song 2
and train drops of jupiter for sure
little blue men dance fast to punk music
i'm surprised No Doubt isn't on this list at all. Not once. Just a Girl... Don't Speak. Just surprised they're not there.
I know it's not vh1s fault but come on, I'd rather have music critics/ experts decide instead of a poll on their website
man, smashing pumpkins should have at least 3 in the list
1979 or Mayonaise should be top 10
more Nirvana should be there too along wit Dave mathews, sublime and Barenaked ladies
Can anyone please explain to me the absence of Dave Matthews Band form this list?
The problem with this list is that it includes too many songs from the 90's that are cheesy novelty songs (either intended or because of time), and too many songs that sound terribly dated. Vh1's Best of the 80's list was good because it primarily included songs that still sound good today, and ones you wouldn't be embarrased to have people catch you listening to in 2010. And you know they could have really screwed up that 80's list as well, with all the bad music from that decade. But really, you won't find too many people still listening to lot of the Top 30 artists on this 90's list, which includes MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Hanson, Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin, N'Sync, Spice Girls, etc. The list should be called "Vh1's most popular songs of the 90s," not "The Greatest."
Man either its all little kids here or people are just real stupid! When they say the 100 greatest songs that means the songs that were the most succesful and did well on the charts. alot of the music that you people like that did not make the list is probably cause they weren't that great. Just because you like it doesn't mean its the greatest! you have to get peoples opinions. This is an accurate liste except for a couple songs in there. Many good songs were left out i have to say like
Stone Temple Pilots: Interstate Love Song and or Plush
Candlebox:Far Behind Smashing Pumpkins:1979 and Cherub Rock Seal:Kiss From a Rose Blind Melon:No Rain
Guns N'Roses:November Rain any song from Garbage would be cool. Hole should of been here also like maybe "asking for it" slave to the grind by skid row some dave matthews and Blink 182
where is i dont wanna miss a thing by aerosmith??! that song is from the greatest songs of aerosmith and is from 90s!
i love old music better than this new breed of music
I also thought at first that they just took songs that were the most successful on the pop charts, but I noticed that a lot of the rock songs on this list never even touched the pop charts. I really wonder how they compiled this list. And of course, I expected "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to be #1, since people still think of Nirvana as the band that singlehandedly killed hair metal. Also, where is Michael Jackson? He had some big hits in the early 90's, like "Black or White" and "Remember the Time."
lol uhm,,,i don't think this list is accurate..i mean most of it is right but i think some of it is a little off...it seems different than what i watched on VH1..maybe not though..i think the people did a good job voting. these songs were ALL huge hits. and the reason there is so many pop songs is because that's when pop music REALLY changed..was in the 90's. think about it. before britney spears and backstreet boys and even hanson..there was michael jackson and madonna..and that was more in the 80's..although their music carried into the 90's, people wanted something new and fresh, and that's what they got!!! i do think black or white or even you are not alone by MJ should have made the list..but also at the time, people didnt really LIKE michael jackson when this list was made. LMAO. think about it...he was kinda like...forgot about lol..sad i know..but the list varies. it has a little bit of everything. its fair. not completely accurate. nothing campares to you is one of my favorite love songs, but even i dont think it should have made the top ten. the reason smells like teen spirit got number one is because that song..and well nirvana in general changed ROCK music! once again, before nirvana or pearl jam..there was all the 80's bands that weren't making shit anymore. NIRVANA changed rock music for the decade, they changed it to something more grungy and mysterious and LOUD! lol..think about it..before nirvana there was all the rock bands like ACDC. lol so if you REALLY think about it. they deserve the top spot. that song, changed rock music!!! some of the songs like "poison" and "o.p.p." should be murdered off this list. where is boys 2 men??? and jewel's, "meant for me"??? it seems like they put a lot of songs that weren't that popular...lol
And that's why 80's pop music was so much better than 90's pop, is because Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, etc. actually had raw talent, unlike all those boy bands and teen pop princesses. And I wouldn't say that Nirvana changed rock music, or changed rock music for the 90s. I think it would have happened anyway. Both listeners and critics were getting tired of the crappy hair bands (like Nelson, who somehow made it onto this list), and record labels just happened to be looking for a bands with a different rock sound at the time. And grunge had been around in the 80's, but it just wasn't popular at the time. Nirvana just happened to be in the right place at the right time, when it was ready to really blow up. Plus, Alice in Chains, another Seattle grunge band, came out with the Number 50 song on this list, "Man in The Box," in 1990, a long year before "Smells Like Teen Spirit" came out, and before anyone had ever heard of Nirvana. And it was a hit too! I think that song was the one that first helped open peoples' eyes to a different rock sound that could also be popular on the radio and MTV. I also think that Faith No More's "Epic," which was also big in 1990 and should've been on this list, was another song that helped in that regard as well.
awwwwwwwwwsome list. music now is complete garbage the same generic trash. nice to go back and listen to old memories
NIRVANA #1 YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
rhis list is bullshit
Oasis-Wonderwall.....35???? Wonderwall is the greatest song of the 90's!!!!!!!
did a spotify playlist with all the songs available, enjoy:
spotify:user:kawakawa:playlist:21E5IVPu1FviDIhLD4JMex
I agree with this except for one thing....were the hell is Two Princess by Spin Doctor?
in the 60 best videos of the 90's bittersweet symphony was number two, and in this list there isn't!! i can't believe it!
What an awful list! A best of the 90's list isn't a list until you put Lauryn Hill in the top 10. That album is one of the best of the entire decade.
Rusted Root - Send Me On My Way????????? Come on!
Please!!!!
Where is Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence!!!!
Or
Bryan Adams - Everything I Do ( i do it for you )
:O
lol American's reject so much good british music.
Oasis, Radiohead, Blur, Pulp...
yeah well thats why alice in chains was on the list too lol is because Alice In chains changed rock music as well. but nirvana was consistent with their music. the lead singer of alice in chains was on drugs baddd like worse than kurt cobain was..lol he killed himself in 03' (long after kurt kobain) and guess what?? people had pretty much forgot about him until they heard about him dying because he didnt make shit..lol terrible huh? but nirvana like i said before..was way way wayy more consistent than alice in chains!! thats why they were the bomb!! haha but god that song "man in the box" is really somethin else, such a beautiful song, that guy really had an amazing voice. such a shame he died :( and kurt...

I agree with everyone who mentioned sublime, bush, stone temple pilots and Blind Melon.
no MJ no Janet no boy 2 men no usher no areosmith not even de friggin macarina or barbie song wtf???????? this is not a list cuz how cud it be without the songs that people will actually remember like black or white or on bended knees or even scream???????? dis was utter crap vh1 needs to do it over
NO SMASHING PUMPKINS OR GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not happy :(
I was looking for 90's songs and I didn't like the songs on the list I took you comments and that was way better then the list for rock songs. I didn't think the list is any good. thanks for the comments
ahahaha I was looking for 90's songs and I didn't like the songs on the list I took you comments and that was way better then the list for rock songs. I didn't think the list is any good.
I don't quite get the list...no STP? Also, no one's mentioned the Toadies, Possum Kingdom one of my fav songs from the 90s
wtf what about bone thugs n harmony
man vh1 dont know shit
the best song of 90s is black or white by the greatest artist of all time Michael Jackson.
most of these songs i grew up listening to. I was born in the early 90's and im about to graduate and i was lookin back and was listening to all the songs i used to listen to with my friends.
How did Achy Breaky Heart beat out Everlong by the Foo Fighters?!?!? >:O
i agree with the backstreet boys being that high on the list, just not that song.....
Not one stone temple pilots song...?
How about Seal - Kiss From a Rose... 20 years from now that song will still have a timeless sound that none of these can match - and I'm a metal head. That teenie bopper crap and boy band stuff will never be heard from again as it is.
Way to suck a dick whoever made this list.
Umm.... i was born in 1994 and i grew up listening to 80's and 90's music i'm 15 now and all i really listen to is the old music but i have no clue what most of these songs are... I recognize a few songs but the rest, i have no clue.
The list has some good songs, I was born in 90 and grew up listening to this music. There are a few injustices in this list.. Most of them have been stated above, but one that I didn't see anyone mention was the abscence of SmashMouth. In the late 90's I think starting in 97 with walking on the sun and then in 99 with their album Astro Lounge made a big impact on the music world. And as everyone else said, Smashing Pumpkins Stone Temple Pilots, The Verve, etc... The list is flawed, but over it is still a decent list
The list is a total crap. VH1 is full of Old grandpas and grandmas. This is not one single Eurodance song in the list.
This should be included:
Rhythm Is A Dancer - Snap!
Barbie Girl - Aqua
What Is Love - Haddaway
Mr Vain - Culture Beat
It's My Life - Dr Alban
Another Night - Real McCoy
God damn, where is Santeria by Sublime?
or What I Got?
This type of lists always annoy me. Obviously a list with those corny cheesy faggets of backstreet boys at number 2 hasn´t got a single trace of credibility. In fact this list is outrageous. Where are Prodigy, Fatboyslim, blueboy, mike mechanics, rage against the machine, grunge bands, and acid jazz bands like brand new heavies, incognito, and so on??? Ricky martin, n Sync, Madonna, britney, Christina aguilera at the top??? WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS? VH1 should be burned right now for difamation of the most wonderful decade ever
What about Marilyn Manson or Green Day??!!
what about one sweet day mariah carey & boyz to men?
i agree, Joshua. if you notice, most of these songs went to "Number 1," or close to it, back in the day. this list is obviously just a list of the most popular, best-selling songs from the 90s, which would explain why Backstreet Boys, Sir Mix-A-Lot and Britney Spears are all in the top 10. Even though they sold millions as singles, I Want it That Way and Baby One More Time weren't even the best quality songs from those "artists," if you can even call them that, and "Baby Got Back" was always a joke song that was only played for a good laugh. There needed to be more timeless, good quality 90s songs on the list, not just a flood of the best selling singles and artists of the decade. There should have been quality songs of the same caliber as the good top-tenners, which included Smells Like Teen Spirit, One, Waterfalls, Losing My Religion, and Nothing Compares 2 U. I wish Vh1 would do a Part 2 of this and include more of the good quality hits of the decade, and less of the hits from boy bands, pop princesses, Latin Don Juans, and now-embarrassing rappers from the early 90s. the one thing I don't get, however, is how they chose the rock songs. they left off a lot of good, popular 90s alternative rock songs that were also pop hits, but they included alternative rock songs that weren't even popular to begin with, like Liz Phair's "Never Said," The Breeders' "Cannonball," or Live's "I Alone" ("Lighting Crashes" would have been the "pop" pick for them). unless they were heavily into 90s alternative rock like I was, the average person has probably never heard some of the rock songs on that list.
where's Michael Jackson? :s i think u forgot his songs!
aerosmith i dont wana miss a thing totally diserved to be on this
i'll make my own list everyone has their own music taste not everyone is the same if you have a problem with the list make your own list
Those songs are so the 90s Icant believe people still watch that stuff.
They forgot about Ace of Base! When they do the list of the 2000s, they better have the A-Teens and S club.
I find it interesting that some of these songs, like Ice Ice Baby, Achy Breaky Heart, and Two Princes and were also on Vh1's "50 Worst Songs Ever" list. therefore, how did they get on here? and I don't understand why people think Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit "changed the future of rock forever," which would explain why it's Number 1, even with all those teenybopper songs closely following it. "Teen Spirit" only killed off the hair bands, which were still popular in '90 and '91. grunge and most good, grungy alternative rock became unpopular by the late 90s (with the emerence of teen-pop, alterna-light rock, third-wave-ska, and rap-metal and nu-metal). there hasn't been any kind of resurgence in alternative rock's popularity, since its peak of the early or mid 90s.
No Aerosmith. No Gun's and Roses. What the Fuck?! Some of the awesome rocks songs on the list(there were very few) should have been ranked much higher. I mean they got beat out by the Backstreet faggots,... erm, Boys!? This list really is crap. The only thing good about this list is Nirvana being at Number 1!
Also screw you Anon, the person who commented above me. Smells like Teen Spirit is one of the Greatest rock songs of all time, i don't care what anyone says. Everything has to end at one point including hair bands. I personally love the Hair bands and classic rock. They always win me over compared to alternative rock. You know there are still bands who make good alternative music nowadays. It may not be as popular as the crappy Rap and Hip-Hop shit, but it is still pretty good and i would say that bands like nirvana have influenced these bands in someway. Geesh practically wrote a book, but i think i got my point across.
Actually now that i reread it, it isn't that long forget the last sentence. god i'm a dumbass.
This list is okay. Not the best but some are okay.
It really pisses me off that everbody is dissing the
backstreet boys. They are amazing and deserve to
be number 3 if not higher. They should have more
than one song on there. Most people would know the
words to I want it that way and more of there songs.
They were amazing and still are. Along with people like
Madonna and Brittany spears. I don't like either one of
them but I know there songs and like some of them.
Sometimes u can't help but like it because they are amazing.
And tere music was and is really good.
So stop dissing the backstreet boys. I love them and have for
a long time. They have beautiful voices and great music. And
have been around for 17 years and are still amazing and have
sold out tours still. :) :) :)
How in the blue hell can the Backstreet Boys be higher on the list than Metallica!? What a shitty fucking list!
NOVEMBER RAIN BY Guns N'Roses? HELLO?
glad to see that NIRVANA is # 1. most of the other songs songs are horrible. how did back street boys make it in the top 5
Where was Savage Garden with Truly Madly Deeply or Everlast with What It's like
banditos - the refreshments should be on this horrible horrible list.
Not a siingle Smashing Pumpkins Song? There's something wrong with the list.
Not even one Def Leppard Song? I talking about future rock n roll inductees.................. This list blows
Where the HELL is JANET JACKSON??? Michael Jackson???
Janet "Again" "That's the way love goes" "Runaway" "If" "Together Again" "Come back to me" "Love will never do" "You want this" how about Michael's "You are not alone" "Remember the Time" "Black and White" "Who is it"
Vanessa Williams "Save the best for last"
Toni Braxton "Breath Again" "UnBreak my Heart"
WTF!! VH1!!! Guess I know who picked the songs
If you liked those boy bands you are responsible for the terrible music today. Just like Soldier boy killed rap today.
where iz JANET JACKSON at! wat dha heck
Hi, does anyone remeber a song that in chorus says: ....together, forever I want to show you.....
I dont'remeber the groups name but it's a girl singing
Thanks, Eddie
Honestly the list wasn't that bad. It was greatest 100 songs, not 1000. If you really care so much, make you're own list.
THIS LIST IS TERRIBLE Where is the PRIMUS?!?!? They were an amazing 90's band the 90's were the best time for music this is just sad
"C.R.E.A.M" -Wu Tang
"Crossroads" -Bone Thugs
"November Rain" -Guns N Roses
just a couple more off the top of my head..goes to show you there's more that missed the list! WE WANT A RE-DO!
to the guy who told me to screw off, i never said that Nirvana sucked or didn't deserve to be at "Number 1." i agree that they were a great band with great albums and great singles. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is well-deserving of being called a classic. i just said that I don't get why people, mostly today's young people, say Nirvana changed popular rock music "forever," and talk about them like they were the Beatles of the 90s. they didn't really represent the "sound of the 90s" and they weren't really "the rock band of the 90s." i mean, come on, Nirvana was only in the musical spotlight for three years in the early 90s (1991-1994), before Kurt killed himself in April of '94, and their musical style became pretty unpopular by the start of the late 90s. by the late 90s, teen-pop like Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears was the dominant form of popular music, and third-wave ska, mellow pop-rock, nu metal, and rap-rock/rap-metal were the most dominant forms of rock (although commercialized hard rock music in general wasn't even that popular during the late 90s, only a few bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit were really popular). i was in high school during the musically horrid late 90s, and i remember back then kids would laugh if you said you were still into grunge.
Wow! Whatta bunch of crap. yuk
WHY didn't GARBAGE make the list? I was sure "I'm Only Happy When it Rains" or "Queer" would be at least somewhere in the top 100. I'm disappointed - also, why is Vanilla Ice in the top 41??? But picking Nirvana as #1 is good.
where's the foo fighters,
everlong almost made the list
sorry,but where's Michael Jackson????!!!!!????he's the best!
Great songs...but where is Michael Jackson? He made great songs in the 90s. And Iris should be higher than the Backstreet boys.
um ya, Odd that Garth Brooks doesnt have one song on this list, esp. since he's sold ALL his record breaking albums in the 90's. Just Odd.
this for all of the haters about this list. this list was constructed by people like you . if you wanted a song to be higher on the list than you should have voted your self
just shows, how many impressionable morons, listen to corporate garbage
To answer Eddie's question : Donna Lewis - Always Forever
catch23, i think it's because Garth Brooks is a country artist. obviously, they were going for only pop, rock and rap songs on this list, although the terrible "Achy Breaky Heart" somehow managed to be the only country song to make it to this list.
WHAT THE HELL HAPPEND TO "LOU BEGA MAMBO No5"
Where is candlebox, drowning pool, big pun, Robbie Williams,Keith sweat, orgy, mark Morrisonseven Mary three, 311, temple of the dog, beastie boys, Janes addiction,David grey, better than Ezra, sixpence none the richer and everything else you all have named.
They should've at least put c.r.e.a.m. by Wu tang and sippin on syrup by three six,and izzo by jay z.Idk I'm not really satisfied esp with the lack of rhcp
nirvana was the downfall to everything that was good in music. hated their music then, really hate it now. nothing against them as people...just the so-called music was awful.
Ay..
What about Nine Inch Nails'?
Closer???
mmmmm.... Bitter sweet symphony - The Verve
Nirvana is trash! thank god kurt was smart enough to take his own life because now we have the Foo Fighters who are a much better band, and they shower!
Like you could do it better
No ones even mentioned AC/DC's THUNDERSTRUCK!!! ya a lot of good songs and a lot of bad ones. lots of songs left out. too bad. i think its funny that its been a 2 year coversation...and counting!
wasn't mmmbop in number 2?
They misses great songs on this list and one that pissed me off was no RATM or Smashing pumpkins or even Marilyn Manson
what happened with november rain??? LOL
WHERE THE HELL IS MICHAEL JACKSON??!!!!!!??!!!!!!!!!
he's better then all of these people on the list...
mmm..... i am crazy or no is in this list
blur - girls and boys
the verve - the bittersweet symphony
guns and roses - novemver rain or dont cry
limp bizkit - rollin
michale jackson - black or white
aerosmith - crazy or cryn
suede - beautifful ones
and where fuck are blink 182 - all small things
oasis number 35? is the number 2!!!! alice in chains number 50??? this list is a popular songs , no the bests
how come no guns n roses?
i can't believ "Friday I'm in Love" by the cure didn't get on the list!
Aaliyah Are You That Somebody
Aaliyah Try Again which hit #1 on Billboard's charts based on airplay!
Brandy And Monica The Boy Is Mine
This list is a PC abomination....
Huh, at least Alice in Chains is on the list..but why 50? they deserve a much better place :(
And where's Blink 182 ?? Or Guns N Roses?
omg, where is the Aerosmith's "I don't wanna miss a thing" ? its fantastic song and 60 million people from you tube can confirm that.
this is probaly one of the greatest songs ever!!!!!!
completely agree with number 1 and 2, nirvana were the best grunge band and u2 created one of the best ballads of all time, also, a lot of things should have been put up, and there is a lot fo shit, like backstreet boys, which deserves the bin
WTF where is SUBLIME! this is a travesty
Where are the Toadies?? Possum kingdom????
I agree with the first song but not some of the others
Yelling like a freak on a leash
nobody mentioned eve 6? lit?..
stp ftw.
where's my man biggie with juicy or big poppa
No BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY?!?
i really like this list it helped me find a lot of sounds i love from the 90s that i forgot about.
Here are 3 songs that FOR SURE should have made the list:
-"Dammit" by Blink-182
-"Closing Time" by Semisonic
-"Inside Out" by Eve 6
there were so many great songs in the 90s.
i def agree sublime shoulda been on there.
I love the 90's if only we didn't have the bubblegum groups.
BACKSTREET BOYS DESERVED MORE THAN JUST ONE SONG
how do you compile a 90s list without Rage? mind boggling..
vale callampa este compilado.
mj's black or white is the best song of 90's
If there is no Michael Jackson... I could go on all day about every other song and artist that was missed, but no Michael says it all. Half the people on that list wouldn't even have made songs to be on there in the first place if it wasn't for MJ.
i think so many songs got left out simply because there were "too many" popular songs that came out in the 90s. they couldn't include them all in a list of only 100 positions. with each decade that passes, there are more and more songs that come out and become popular, and well over 100 of them. therefore, i'd hate to see how many good songs they'll leave out for their "100 greatest songs of the 2000's" list.
boooooooooooooooor
No Stone Temple Pilots? Weak... Interstate Love Song was huge.
WHERE IS JANET AND MICHAEL AT????
MARIAH DESERVED MORE SONGS!!!
WTF IS THIS?!??!??!!
How come there is no smashing pumpkins and coldplay they are much better than some of the bubblegum-pop garbage. On a real list smashing pumpkins would have at least one of there many awesome songs!
No Blink-182???? this must be the list that is Top 100 of the 90's except Blink-182 because they would have been all over the top 25. Ya and were is the Smashing Pumpkins.... Come on VH1
this list is horseshit. How can you talk about the 90s and not mention Sublime?!
The problem with a list of 90's greatest hits, if you truly wanted to put the best songs it would be covered with grunge, pop-punk, and other alternative rock. Green Day and Nirvana would dominate the list. Half of their songs were bigger hits than these. Maybe some Pearl Jam in the mix. And Blink wasn't even mentioned. They were the soundtrack to all of 1999
I agree that Pearl Jam should have been there and Give It Away By the Red hot chili peppers such a catchy song and 1979 is also very catchy.
No tool. Who made this bull!@# list?
Where the hell was Bush???? Razorblade suitcase's songs were all better than half the songs on this list!
Where the #(*&@ was No Doubt??? Tragic Kingdom went 15X platinum! Also everyone who has pointed out lack of STP, Gin Blossoms, etc. was right on. This list was way too slanted to early 90s and random garbage. I've never even heard of half these songs. Backstreet Boys at 3 = FAIL.
Wow, this list, for the most part, was not the 90's I remember. It seems to be made up by the posers, the wannabe's and people who graduated before the 90's began. Barfo, this list makes the 90's and the people who grew up in it look like a bunch of idiots . . . or something . . .
Plush, Interstate Love Song, The Big Empty, Sex Type Thing, No Rain, ZOMBIE, Pretty Fly For a White Guy, Song 2, 1979, Zero, The Boy is Mine, Closing Time, Don't Speak, Everlong, My Hero, Heroes, One Headlight, Till I Hear it From You, Follow You Down, Hey Jealosy, All the Small Things, What's My Age Again, Love Fool, Zoot Suit Riot, The Distance, Short Skirt Long Jacket, Never There, New Age Girl, Inside Out, Wonderful, Santa Monica, Father of Mine, Volvo Driving Soccer Mom, I will Buy You a New Life, AM Radio, Out of My Head, Ants Marching, Crash Into Me, November Rain, Bitter Sweet Symphony, The Freshman, Truly Madly Deeply, Everything You Want, Roll To Me, If You Could Only See, Little Miss Can't Be Wrong, Man I'm tired of writing.
WHERE'S MICHAEL JACKSON !!??????????
lol@Michael Jackson plea... his reign was in the 1980's... NOT the 1990's.
I think they tried to make it so that each band only appeared once on the list. Wonder if that's why they didn't list Foo Fighters since they were descended from Nirvana. But yeah, they should've been more clear on what they meant by "greatest". Most influential? Most popular at the time? Your personal favorite song (you'll get 1000 answers if that's what they mean)?
Smells Like Teen Spirit being #1 makes me think they're trying to say "most influential" since it didn't sell nearly as many copies as a lot of stuff that didn't even make it on the list. But then what the heck are one-hit wonders like Marcy Playground, New Radicals, and Hanson doing on there in place of STP, NIN, and Marilyn Manson (and several others)?
It was about time that they did a '90s list. They were on the '80s for 3 to 4 years. I'd love to see what the 2000s list is like-- a lot happened that decade too. I think the '90s is the toned down decade--remember how most people toned down their looks that decade, versus the over the top looks of the '80s. They returned to it in the 2000s. And I agree with many, that Boyz II Men should have been on that top 100 list--they had over a dozen hits in the '90s. End of the Road was No. 1 for some 12 weeks! Maybe the VH-1 staff that compiled the list might not have listened to the group during its prime; most of those people might have been into rock bands, pop or rap artists or other R&B artists at the time. So you have to think about that with '90s artists being overlooked.
i need help the list of the 90's has everything but one group whom ive been trying to think of and all i can give is a descripion anyone know of a pop band from the 90's: the one guy has his hair done in like 2 pom pomps and wheres these goggles and the have orange jump suits in there music video and they have a girl vocalist whos black i think and then there are two other guys they were a weird group but really good! anyone know of a group who kinda sounds like that description???? please let me know!!
Wow no STP no Black Crowes, unreal
is where GunS N RoSeS ?
I don't understand why each artist only got 1 song each. Many had more than one great song. Some don't belong on this list, while some artists didn't receive the recontion they deserve.Too many to count.
where is bjork?sublime?smashing pumpkins?melissa ethridge?
it's simply a list of the most then-popular songs from the 90s. there's no other reason why so many now-crappy "recycled-pop" songs from would be on the list, and you have to remember that these songs were huge and well-loved in the 90s, but probably wouldn't be if they came out in today's pop music world. notice how some of the most popular, radio-ready, and not-necessarily-the-greatest artists and songs of the decade (like Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys, N'sync, Eminem, artists with huge one-hit-wonder songs, etc.) are all in the top 40? and i bet they threw heavy-sounding, less popular rock songs from Metallica, Beastie Boys, Soundgarden and Radiohead in there just so the top 40 wasn't "completely pop." and as a side note, wasn't Destiny's Child's Say my Name (#17) a single in 2000, not '99?
i can understand people being mad about Janet Jackson not being on here, since she had several huge hits in the 90s, but Michael? the only noteworthy thing he did in the 90s was the Dangerous album, which had only one good single, Black or White, which wasn't even that good compared to his 80s stuff. after that came his disappointing flop album titled HIStory, which had no good new singles, unless you count that crappy-sappy ballad You are not Alone. and that was it for his albums in the 90s. he didn't do anything again until 2001's Invincible. people forget that Michael was not really recording and performing all that much in the 90s.
NIRVANA is and will always be the greatest band ever. R.I.P Kurt we miss you guy.
This list is terrible! Modest Mouse and Neutral Milk Hotel are excellent bands that should be present here. And I can't even begin to understand why What's Up by 4 Non Blondes and No Rain by Blind Melon are not on this list. And Radiohead's Creep, number 31?! Complete Rubbish!!! All I agree with on the list is Smells Like Teen Spirit at number 1.
come on, it's Vh1. sure, i like Modest Mouse and other bands like them, but they're not going to include indie bands that weren't on commercialized radio or MTV/Vh1 in the 90s. it's a list of the most popular songs of the 90s. the same goes for the guy who thought bands like Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson should be on here. they're too "heavy and scary" for a Vh1 best of list.
This is just a collection of songs that a bunch of teenage musician wannabes grabbed off the top of their heads. No thought went into this whatsoever you can tell. The fact that "Kiss from a Rose" is nowhere near the list proves this. Idiots.
yes the 90s rock scene was the pinnacle of human civilization. but now, the music has died.
nirvana rules haha
I Want It That Way definitely reached #1 in the U.S. as it was the Backstreet Boys' first number one around the world
i guess i can understand why teenybop acts like backstreet boys, n'sync, britney and christina are on here, since they were huge worldwide and had some pretty big hits, but why is Color Me Badd on here? they were considered a joke even back in the 90s. come on, who can really say that "i wanna sex you up" was a "great" song?
does it matter? i agree and disagree with alot of these songs, but all n all it takes me back to the time and reminds me of all my favs from them....glad i'm not the only 1 who likes to close my eyes and pretend i am back there....i remember trying to ruch and hit record on the tape player to catch my fav, not just download it...kids have it made and dont even realize it now!
Plush or Interstate Love Song out?
they probably went by sale records. popularity, radio plays and all those statistics. just glad Eminem is on there
Drops of Jupiter- Train? that song was amazing
Gerardo?????? Really????? They put Rico Suave in and let Enjoy the Silence out??? In what world is this possible????
ohyesi'mright 4 months ago
yeah well thats why alice in chains was on the list too lol is because Alice In chains changed rock music as well. but nirvana was consistent with their music. the lead singer of alice in chains was on drugs baddd like worse than kurt cobain was..lol he killed himself in 03' (long after kurt kobain) and guess what?? people had pretty much forgot about him until they heard about him dying because he didnt make shit..lol terrible huh? but nirvana like i said before..was way way wayy more consistent than alice in chains!! thats why they were the bomb!! haha but god that song "man in the box" is really somethin else, such a beautiful song, that guy really had an amazing voice. such a shame he died :( and kurt...
WTF?....Anony 3 months ago
to the guy who told me to screw off, i never said that Nirvana sucked or didn't deserve to be at "Number 1." i agree that they were a great band with great albums and great singles.
WTF??? Again....guys what music hear the baby's songs or WHAT?
Good decade i love it..., now we all hear some piece of shit song like ugliest lady gaga song and gaga becoming into the world and internet sensation and people like it, it so style over substance, what the f#*king hell with people right now???!!!, come on realize that...
Completely agree with all the people wondering where the hell Rage is on here. Just pick even ONE song to represent the band and the impact they had on music in the 90's, like Gorilla Radio, which got a LOT of radio play. Anything! I was hoping they'd include one of the many fantastic Ben Folds Five songs but I realize they're not super popular. To me "Kate" may be the best pop song of the decade. And yeah - no "Song 2" by Blur?? WTF? There are some pretty shitty & non-influential songs on here that need to be replaced.
The top 10 should be Jeremy, Alive, Even flow, and everyother other pearl jam song written in the 90's (that wouls also include daughter, animal, better man etc.) What a joke. Good thing they got the brokeback boys, sir-sucks-alot and Brittany train-wreck-Spears in the top ten though. Whoever made this list should be shot.
gotta be fuckin kiddin me to leave boys 2 men outa this.
no tribe called quest? protect ya neck is a honorable mention?? no real biggie song??? what kind of list is this?
Where is:
Snoop Dogg - Who am I?
macarena
smashing pumpkins - zero
One Pearl jam song...really?
jeff buckley's "hallelujah" came out in 1994
Where's Blind Melon "No Rain"??? One of the greatest songs in the 90s.
It's VH1. So it goes to show you that this list is complete shit. When you are worse than Mtv, it proves you're a failure.
VH1 = The Twilight of television.
Seriously. There is a show on VH1 right now called Dad Camp. The end
OLP FOR LIFE.
It is unbelievable that sublime is not on this list. Easily one of the most influential bands of the 90's with many great songs. Santeria or What I Got should have been one the list. Brittany Spears is in the top ten???? F-you voters.
I agree with the #1 pick, but how did Godsmack's voodoo or Keep Away not make it in there?
also, what about ants marching? where's that?
What can I say? List made on usa, so no britpop making a major appearence here, had it been made in the uk oasis, blur or radiohead would have been on top. At least smells like teen spirit earned its place but too many rap and hip hop for my taste.
also, what about ants marching? where's that?
you know even though i'm a fan of Nirvana i still feel the Michael and Janet Jackson's song "scream' should've been number one
WHERE THE HELL IS CREED?!?!
no rage, no sublime, and wu-tang clan is honorable mention...
well... yeah, this list is just flat out terrible
This list is stupid. it only has a handfull of the classics, and a ton of crap...
I love how VH1 is so inconsistent with their lists. Quite a bit of songs on here are on their awesomely bad songs list.
i hate fags who talk using the words rubbish n shit this is America. YES nirvana lives on:)
100 wortst songs of 90's omg this sucks!
where is KISS w/ God gave rock n roll to you???
and the verbe, oasis,,,,,,
and why are here the backstreet boys vh1 sucks
No blur? really?
if you think this list is bad, just think, the best of the 2000's list is going to be 10 times worse when it comes out in five years. i can already predict that the Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber will all be in the top 10.
SELENA and MICHAEL JACKSON
Love that U2 got second, they totally deserve it (especially since you don't see any other 80s bands playing to crowds of 50,000+ a night).
When does the voting begin for the top 100 of the 2000s?
Where's Boyz II Men
i kinda understand why all the laughable novelty and kiddie pop songs are on here, since they were quite popular in the 90s, but how did Cher's "Believe" make it to the list? a simple computer-generated techno beat, overuse of auto-tune, and Cher's donkey-esque voice doesn't make for a "great" song in my book.
Carlos Santana's Maria Maria and Smooth??????????????????????????
^^ THIS ^^

THE 100 POINTLESS SONGS OF THE 90's, SO WRECKLESS AS THE PEOPLE WHO VOTE IT, AND I SAY THAT NIRVANA MUT NOT BE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
THE 100 POINTLESS SONGS OF THE 90's, SO WRECKLESS AS THE PEOPLE WHO VOTE IT, AND I SAY THAT NIRVANA MUT NOT BE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
people shut up this list was made by vosts not by vh1
owww Blur is not in the list
The best summer song of 1998: Ray of Light by Madonna. That song takes me back to the 90's. That should have made the list. Great song!
IT should be Right Now from Van Halen
No
sugar ray or a pair of 2 stupid kids with their clothe crossed
no sublime?
This list has absolutely no credibility strictly because it lists Smells Like Teen Spirit, one of the worst songs of the 90's.
Well, I understand that vh1 picked this list from what people voted for and what sold the most and I hear everybody talkin about sublime and blind melon, but where in the hell is BoyzIIMen and unfortunately, New Kids on the block. Along with Alia, R Kelly, JODECI, Ace of Base, Brian McNight, Bone, and Why the F*&ck is Biggie absent on this list. Really? No Biggie? He changed the game. So sad. So sad. And No M&M? So sooo sad.... Que triste'
Yea i agree with C Boogie where is the rest of them they had some bad A$$ songs to
Creed?
backside boys #4? and boyz ii men no where to be found? b2m ruled r&b in the 90s. boybands like the backside boys and nstink could only wish they could be as good as boyz ii men.
who the heck compiled this list? LAME! completely LAME!
what about BLINK 182??!?!?
Well if u want ur bands go to vh1.com and vote instead of whining. They had people submit bands and vote on them. They even mention it on the show between breaks.
I was very sad that they didn't add Dave Matthews Band, Sublime or 311. They missed out on a lot!
Nirvana is trash! thank god kurt was smart enough to take his own life because now we have the Foo Fighters who are a much better band, and they shower! whoever said that....WOW! is all i can say backk....you obviously dont know what good music is even if it came and slapped you in the face :)
God damn it this list sucked. It was okay, that's how far I'll go. No, Biggie? No, Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal (only Metallica fuck them), Gothic metal, Techno (Prodigy) and others. This list was lacking some approach. God damn it, if I had to put a list together, it would be a mix from 8-bit to West Coast Hip-Hop. They need more grindcore and Death Metal.
Grunge was only a 90's genre and Death metal was getting popular. Where's that?
Okay, I agree with Ryan. Mariah Carey should have had a few more on the list. Vision of love showed her talent, but it definitely wasn't her best.. where is "Honey" "Fantasy" .. etc.. AND JANET, should have at least had "That's The Way Love Goes" on here. That song defined her in the 90's. And also, Madonna should have had MANY on here. Ray of Light - Erotica - ETC.
AND ALSO, where is the good oasis? And ALL the good rap music (tupac biggie.. etc) that led to everything anybody listens to today. This list is purely based on billboard 100. Corrupt list. What happened to VH1 & MTV being about MUSIC, and not what's popular, and what was?
anyone who hates on nirvana needs to get there ears checked
everyone asking who compiled this list, it was voted upon by ppl who went to the site and just voted, and NIRVANA FTW
Where's Gangsta's paradise by coolio?
I don't understand how most of these are one hit wonders. Nirvana, Madonna, Backstreet Boys, Whitney Houston, and U2 all have many hits.
What do you expect? People who watch VH1 made the list.
Where is Boyz II Men? There were like pretty much the biggest male R&B group of the 90s? They went Diamond for god's sake.
And That's the Way Love Goes by Janet Jackson?
And to the Michael fans, Black or White indeed went #1 but it for sure wasn't one of his most memorable hits like in the 80s countdown where Beat it AND Billie Jean made the cut. The 80s was Michael's prime and the 90's was Janet's so where is TTWLG.
And I'm SOOOO suprised to not see the Macarena on this list. Thank god.
What about "Silent Lucidity"? I guess that had no bearing on '90s music, eh?
HAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA people are ridiculous.
i think boy bands and teen pop princesses created the downfall of popular music and MTV in the 90s. looking back now, it doesn't seem like '97 through '99 were even really part of "The 90s" we all remember and love. i blame the Spice Girls for starting that huge pop movement. but it is kinda weird that while my older sister and i got to grow up with alternative rock being popular during our youth, my younger sister had to grow up with teen pop being insanely popular during her youth. i'd say there were almost two different 1990s in a way.
if you thought the MJ obsession was bad on this page, you should check out the Vh1 best of the 80s page. tons of people are all upset that Michael had "only" two songs on that list. it's crazy how death can cause a once-mocked artist to become worshipped.
Nirvana sucks. This list is bull.
slightly entertaining, but many flaws… I enjoyed watching the list but when the top 10 came up still with no NO DOUBT or SUBLIME I was shocked and immediately angered… I mean I get that they didn't have The Wallflowers, or Cake, but come on people!!!
People have to remember that this is a genre-nonspecific list. If it were a 90's alternative or post-grunge list, bands like Green Day and Beck and Cake would be all over it. I myself am a huge Green Day fan and also agree that Basket Case should replace Good Riddance, only because sales wise, Basket Case was a larger hit. People just remember Good Riddance more because it got more air play and more popularization because it's acoustic, not a 'punk rock' song.
Where is the Depeche Mode? Enjoy the Silence and Personal Jesus?
Let's bump Achy Breaky Heart or something!
how is there no smashing pumkins on this list
Goo Goo Dolls should have been up way more than once.
How no Everclear? So Much for the Afterglow was great. My entire middle school life. And Filter too. Can't forget when they were good.
see this is how i know pop lovers chose this.
how is there no NIN - Closer?
that song launched trent reznor and industrial music, something that is huge now, into the mainstream.
instead they have hanson...
really, hanson?
How can Vanhalen's RIGHT NOW not be on this list....wtf ?
come one how is blink-182 not on this list
WEEZER - - - SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November Rain, while not just being a great song in and of itself, was played ad nauseum on MTV back when they played music videos. How it didn't make the list boggles the mind.
trash
WHERE ON EARTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IS BLINK 182?????!
omg third eye blinds song is amazingggg! and he is gorgeous!
Why is half of this crap some gangster crap we don't need any more of that because that's all there is now
WTF? what about Aerosmith I don´t wanna miss a thing? Celine Dion my heart will go on can be in the list and can be on the top 10, but not I don´t wanna miss a thing? BS! Offsprings??? Mj? Blink? Ace Base? I saw the sign?lol.
Didn't Garth Brooks sell like a trillion records in the 90's I don't like his music but surely he deserves a spot, what about sublime?smashing pumpkins?so many shit ones on the list and so many good ones missing!!
i cant believe Everlong didnt make it!
its such a good song!
why is there only ONE GREEN DAY SONG ON HERE!!!!!!!!
there should be more... good riddance was a good song... BUT there should have been when i come around basket case and welcome to paradise.. COME ON
and dookie.. great album... love #1 smells like teen spirit
No red Hot Chilli Peppers "soul to squeeze"? And not one STP song either.... And how about the Black Crows "shake your money maker"..... How did none of these artiset make the top 100 is perplexing to me...
Paranoid Android by Radiohead anyone? Absolute epic.
I'll give Teen Spirit credit for being such a culture-changing song but some many other picks here are such BS. Just songs that came and went like any other pop song.
How can they put 2 cover songs on this list so high? Come on a cover song.
love it
should placed 1000 greatest instead of 100.too many not in the list
1st all u ppl that like blink182 can go die cuz there singer sounds like a wining bitch in all there songs
and yeah smells like teen spirit kicks serious ass, im just sad come as you are isnt on there i think its just as good as smells like teen spirit
best decade
wow there are so many huge ones missing from this list. does anything in the bottom 20 even shine a light to bittersweet symphony or can you feel the love tonight??
what happened to Sum 41?
Lot's of great songs on here but they tried too hard to equal out a few different genres.
Not everyone can make the list obviously but at knee jerk reaction the two biggest missed are Everlast's "What It's Like" and Sublime's "What I Got" have held up better than most songs on the list as they continue to play on modern stations still today - something that 50% if not more of this list can't say the same.
I mostly like this list, brings back memories. Don't get why some are on it tho. I have a feeling when the 2000s list comes out a lot of the great songs from early 2000 will be overlooked ;like Blink 182, Train, and 3 Doors Down just to name a few, because of the newer pop music. I hope this isn't the case.
Sorry for the double post but i just noticed that a lot of the songs people are complaining about not being on this list aren't from the 90s they are from 2000 or 2001. Keep your hopes for the next list.
Coolio??? Robin S???? Gabrielle - 'dreams' was massively popular. And, not that i'm bothered, but what about bryan adams, he was number 1 for most the the bloody decade!!!!! More Oasis, Blur etc.. this blows massive schlongs
test
this list is not very good at all
I cant believe they didnt put incubus on here sad really
Fade Into You (Mazzy Star)
1979 (Smashing Pumpkins)
Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve)
Santeria (Sublime)
Zombie (The Cranberries)
and any No Doubt.
All should be here
Where is sublime!?!?
no blur?! this list is invalid...
NSYNC!!! WOOOOOOO!!
god i miss the 90s :(
how is sublime no where on this list?????!?!?!?
HOW IS THERE NO MICHAEL JACKSON ON THIS LIST HOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is the best selling artist of all time and he ROCKED the 90's..."Black or White"..."do you remember the time"... "in the closet"...super bowl..clinton's inauguration...his world tour concert..."will you be there" from free willy...."Jam" with Michael Jordon..."who is it"..."Give into me" ..."SCREAM" with janet Jackson..."They don't really care about us".."Earth song" .." You are not alone"..."Stranger in Moscow" .."Ghosts"...and sop many others. THE KING OF POP, ROCK, AND SOUL!!! Get your ish together VH1 and pay him the respect and honor he deserves by putting him number one on this list!

are they high??!!?? not one dave matthews song! come onn
i'm surprised that such a timeless song like the Foo Fighters' Everlong could miss the cut, yet crap like Hanson, Backstreet Boys, MC Hammer and Britney Spears makes the top 20. most of the songs on this list are horribly dated and don't get played on stations anymore (when was the last time you heard MMMBop or U Can't Touch This on a modern pop station within the past 10 years? hmmm? i can't remember) the songs like Everlong and others that still get airplay today on modern pop or rock stations are mostly all missing. they should have gone for undated-sounding songs that still sound fresh and great today, like they did with the 80s list. and also gotten rid of jokey, bad-quality crap like Sir Mix a Lot's Baby Got Back, which somehow made the top 10.
Great List!
Here's my attempt at the greatest rap songs of all time:
There are so many great songs left out, and crappy ones getting in the top ten, they should do it all over again.
the only one that is 100% accurate is smells like teen spirit, that song is the 90s anthem
"Sellout"
And definitely Sublime in there somewhere as well.
I have spoken.
No Justin Bieber on this list? Total bullshit and proves VH1 has no credibility. Beliebers for life!
FOR YOU INFO:
JUSTIN BIEBER OFFICIALY GAY
HE LOVES MALE ESPECIALY BLACK MALE
Where is Sublime ?????!!!!
To the biever lover first of all this list is for songs of the 90's and Justin Bieber is not even old enough to remember the 90's also he lip synced on the VMA's, he sucks!
THERES NOT ONE SONG OF GUNS & ROSES , AEROSMTH, MICHEL JACKSON, THIS LIST SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Where the hell is SUBLIME?! "What I Got" or "Santeria" has to make this list. Dumb.
The fact that the Dave Mathews Band didnt have a single song on this list is a testament to the fact that the appreciate fro the great music of the 90s is lost tomost people these days.
This is so stupid. No Aaliyah, biggie, or boyz to men
Hi pplz
This list is awesome im a nineties baby and yes there is some biggie dummy. I watching it right now on VH1
umm tool hasnt been on any top 100 list.... greatest musicians ever wtf
What about Blind Melon???????
Great line up for the most part... I might have rearranged a little. The fact that there is no Dave Matthews Band means that it has serious flaws, but it covers a lot of great bases.
Really....Really VH1...no MJ....no Michael Jackson on here @ all....ur countdowns all ways do suck...there are ppl on here that their songs didnt even hit #1 or i havent even heard of. Who in the BLUE-EST OF BLUE HELL'S IS BREEDER OR SOUNDGARDEN COMPARED TO MJ!...i mean nowhere on the countdown. COME ON! LMAO!
UMMMMM, Where is Janet Jackson????
How in the world did she not make the top list when she was the Highest paid female singer and highest selling artist of the 90's????
Who made this list?
obviously they just picked what they listened too.
the list is crap.
Many of these songs belong on the worst songs of the '90s list. It seems that the main criteria was how many records were sold, even if most of those records were tossed out a couple of years later. I remember the '90s as being a time of some excellent music. You forgot the Pixies, But**ole Surfers, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., Mudhoney, Hole, the Wedding Present, Jawbreaker, Fugazi, They Might Be Giants, Big Black and Sonic Youth. I don't think the Backstreet Boys, Nsync, Hootie & the Blowfish and Barenaked Ladies are quite as compelling.
I would have to say that the top ten songs are not even the greatest songs of the 90's at all and some songs that where the stuff back then are not even on this list...
"MmmBop" by Hanson should have been in the top 5 at LEAST! Best band ever, besides The Beatles that is!
everlong is top 20 easily
no one headlight by the wallflowers?
de list is real shitload... and too crappy except phew..
cant you delete this and re-appear wid a new one
???
Where is No Doubt's Don't Speak.
the best music that i heard in my all life
I love the 90s . I was so lucky to have been born in that era ! The music was amazing , ABSOLUTLY AMAZING, as was the the cartoons ! Haha ! I miss the Rugrat s!
Blur!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This list is VERY flawed...Where is Shanice's "I Love Your Smile" (one of THE MOST memorable pop songs of the entire decade..and you rock music fans have no choice BUT to agree, cause it's the damn truth!). I didn't see Michael Jackson's "Remember the Time" either..and both of these songs were Waaaaaaaaaaaaay popular than most of the songs on the list...hell, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was NOT all THAT POPULAR anyway....the urban/R&B music crowd didn't even know who the hell Nirvana was, nor cared.....yet, EVERYBODY was singing "I Love Your Smile" and "Remember the Time".....cause urban/R&B in the 90s WAS MORE POPULAR THAN GRUNGE ROCK BULLSHIT, which was why it CHARTED ON THE TOP 10 MORE THAN GRUNGE ROCK CRAP SONGS! This list SUCKS
@Craig, are you smoking something? Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" was LEGIONS upon LEGIONS more popular than "Smells Like Teen CRAP"...remember, ONLY the SMALL PERCENTAGE of people (Grunge rock fans) KNEW or CARED about Nirvana...a VERY forgettable band that the WHITE MEDIA has always trumpted. At the end of the day, they were FORGETTABLE and had next to no hits..."Smells Like Teen Spirit" STRUGGLED to even reach #4 on the Top 10, and the video was GARBAGE and CHEAP!
Backstreet Boys are kick ass! #3 I Want It That Way, great song. :)
yeah right! its about brittney spears toxic!
#38! its an amazing song! i think they should have more songs like that
Great song! I think Lucky should have been up there though. #7 is a great song. So is # 30! :D
number 48 is also an amazing song! they are a great band!
I think #1 should have been Everybody by the Backstreet Boys! I love the Backstreet Boys! I still rock out to them everyday. :) They are by far the best band ever!
Backstreet Boys For Life!!!!!!!!!!
"BACKSTREETS BACK! ALRIGHT!"
:D
Great List - Brings back a lot of memories. Think they missed on a lot of the R&B/Hip-Hop/Rap songs, but that's me. Some I knew, most I'd never heard before - and could think of others I heard more back then.
Wow! "End of the Road", "I'll Make Love To You", "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday", "One Sweet Day", "Water Runs Dry", "On Bended Knee" just to name a few. How the hell do you leave Boyz 2 Men off the list? They broke the record for consecutive weeks at number 1 on the charts...TWICE! This list is friggin retarded! VH1 proves once more why it's a pathetic network!
no selina "dreaming of you", "i could fall in love" everybody knows "bidi bidi bom bom" when they hear it "como la flor" was a hit as well.
......Worst. List. EVER.
This list sucks. Whoever put it together is either an idiot, or a collective group of idiots.
Collective I think. Don't we all vote to decide, so I think we only have our self's to blame for not voting quality...
where is heart shaped box?
who here likes squirrels?
no indecent obsession too?
heyyyyyyyy guys, what about Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus, what if they were in the 90s yo
just shut the hell up!
plz check the 80's song for Gun N Roses fans.........
WHERES THE BLINK 182....WHATS MY AGE AGAIN, ALL THE SMALL THINGS...WTF!!!???!!!!????

firestarter- the prodigy HOW THE HELL IS THAT NOT ON THIS?!
i agree with the previous commenter who said Nirvana was overrated, and that it's weird to put them at number 1. seriously, Smells like Teen Spirit was only big for a few months in '92, and then nobody really cared about Nirvana by the end of that year. rock radio and MTV only started playing Nirvana again after Kurt shot himself, which gave him "rock god" status. yet, everyone seems to think they were this amazing band that "changed music in the 90s." just how long was grunge music popular again? two years, maybe? as i recall, grunge was pretty much a passed and dead fad by the mid-90s.

Add songs in comment you wish to convey as grandeur. 90s of course!
this list is almost perfect for my opinion, but somehow i think that some other awesome songs are missing:
1."ang huling el bimbo-Eraserheads(if this song is has an english lyrics,it would absolutely be on top 10 af any list about"greatest songs of all time".it's so awesome so please look it up on the net.i can somehow understan the lyrics due to its wonderful melody
2.heart shaped box
3in bloom
4.never surrender-corey hart
5.thunderstruck-ACDC
6.the unforgiven-metallica
7.dumb-nirvana
8.who made who-ACDC
9.lithium-nirvana
10.sweet child o'mine-Gn'R
hey,i think all i have listed above should be included,am i right class?
there's not even a guns n' roses,ACDC,metallica or or nirvana song except SLTS!slight disappointment for me.
there's not even a guns n' roses,ACDC,metallica or or nirvana song except SLTS!slight disappointment for me.
I agree with "yappik". Where the heck is "Black Or White" by Michael Jackson? Or one of MJ's other great 90's songs, like "Earth Song" or "They Dn't Care About Us"?
@Faina: exactly what I'm thinking! LOL
Where are these songs:
Rednex-"Cotton Eye Joe"(1994)
Michael Jackson-"Black Or White"(1991)
Michael Jackson-"They Don't Care About Us"(1996
Michael Jackson-"Earth Song"(1995)
Shania Twain-"Man! I Feel Like A Woman"(1999)
Smash Mouth-"All Star"(1999)
Tim McGraw-"I Like It, I Love It"(1995)
Quad City DJ's-"Space Jam"(1996)
R. Kelly-"I Believe I Can Fly"(1996)
Seal-"Fly Like An Eagle"(1996)
Aqua-"Barbie Girl"(1997)
"Weird Al" Yaknovic-"Achy Breaky Song"(1993)
"Weird Al Yankovic-"Smells Like Nirvana"(1992)
...just to name a few. I know the last 2 are parodies of songs already on the list, but still. Why the heck aren't they on there?
Oh, and I forgot this one:
Tom Cochrane-"Life is a Highway"(1991)
i think the list should have more kind'a grungy songs and some metal or hard rock. And does anybody notice that either bon jovi nor guns n' roses song aren't here?and to the guy named hellohellohowWhatsoever, the son entitled an huling el bimbo is epic.a great guitar solo, however ,me no understand lyrics.CAN SOMEBODY please inform ME about THEIR NATIONALITY?well, they have an english song entitled "with a smil".Trust me'it's such a beutiful song.

oh'i almost forgot
WIND OF CHANGE by scorpions
I'm a new ERASERHEAD FAN now,and i'm sure you will be too,if you listen to their songs.thank you verymuch hellowhellguy
No Wilson Phillips??? Take your pick of any of the following 3: "Hold On", "Release Me", or "You're in Love". These opened out the 90's with a bang.
i have to agree with a lot of the comments posted.....backstreet boys? come on, fresh teens r the only one's that listened to them. they were nothing more than a pretty face just like N-'stink'......i wanna know what year the person that made this list was born in. yes there r some pretty great songs on the list, but u guys SERIOUSLY need to re-think and make another album. try goin around and asking people what they'd like to hear on the list rather than just throwing in some crap that no one else listened to. out of this whole list, there's maybe 10-15 songs top that i actually like.
this list is out of sorts....where is November Rain???
Aqua?
TOOL???
GREEN DAY NEEDS 2 b on there but love smells like teen sprit
I really thing everlong by foo fighters should have been up there. Nirvana and Foo Fighters are my favorite band of the 90s and i thing they were the best too. but thats just my opioion

yeah metallica was bad in the 90's
but of course there are some songs that qualify:
1.unforgiven
2.fuel
2.no more?!!!!
i kept on seeing the word"eraserheads" on this list.who are they?????
makes me want to check 'em out.
Who won the Mc. Hammer vs. Vanilla Ice beef? Why is it that parties usually involved in a beef end up the exact same way? Go on, think about it for a sec....get it?
Who won the Mc. Hammer vs. Vanilla Ice beef? Why is it that parties usually involved in a beef end up the exact same way? Go on, think about it for a sec....get it?
Why no ST motha effing P?!?
Plush and Interstate love song were 2 of the biggest 90's songs!
Why is third eye blind's "semi-charmed life" on here but not jumper?!?!
Sweet Dreams?
I think the list becomes lame when you find that no bands/singers have more than one song on the list. How can you say this is the Top 100 songs yet limit yourselves? I'm sure that Nirvana's 2nd GREATEST song is better than most of these (i.e. Barely Breathing or Never Said).
this list is more like the most "memorable" songs of the 90s, not necessarily the "greatest." voters were probably pitching in songs that they remembered the best, even if they didn't think they were such great songs that would stand the test of time. "i want it that way," "baby got back," "baby one more time," "u can't touch this," and "MMMBop," which are all in the Top 20, are examples. memorable songs? of course. but GREAT songs? not really. also, some of these songs weren't even really well-known hits, or hits at all, like the included songs by Liz Phair, Geto Boys, Sophie B. Hawkins, The Breeders, Missy Elliott, and Alice in Chains.
Really is some bull shiza. If nothing else, Tool needed to be somewhere on the list. Given, they hardly make it onto any top 100 charts, they still sell out every show, every time. Plus, how many of these bands are still together with their original members growing as artists and not capitalists? I really don't think you can make an accurate list in which metallica and hanson only two positions from each other.
Filter's Hey Man Nice Shot or Take a Picture
Lit's My Own Worst Enemy
Limp Bizkit's Nookie
Everclear's Father of Mine
uhm, where the HELL is bush and gin blossoms and candlebox? theirs a little too much pop in this list and the 90s was not mostly pop, it was mostly rock. i think "you" by candlebox could definitely have replaced rico suave. i was born in 1995 and i feel this list is very misleading, though i wasnt around to experience it unfortunately, i listen know, and these songs dont scream 90s the way other iconic songs of this era do. my opinion.
Nirvana
it's good to hear you say that, Daisha. i was worried that most teenagers today associated the 90s with boy bands, teen-pop princesses, and all the crappy one-hit pop wonders on this list. but there really was so much good rock to come out of the decade, and it's too bad that almost none of it is represented here (but there is the obvious Nirvana choice at #1, of course). plus, i think most true music-loving people who lived through the 90s have fonder memories of the rock that came out of the decade.
LIVE's? PRIMITIVE RADIO GODS'? THE VERVE's? VERVE PIPE's? SMASHING PUMPKINS'? TRACY CHAPMAN's? THIRD EYE BLIND's?? BLUR's? BJORK's? STONE TEMPLE PILOTS'?...etc. this list is a cRap.
For a pop music channel the list is good and it was thinking whit priority On the usa market pfff, but really is terrible...
Where´s xuxa? where´s faith no more? where´s x japan?
I know your comment Josie is 2 years ago, but i dont care, i have to comment about this, you only know about rock wth!
I want it that way should be 2nd
woot. woot. great song!!!
this list sucks.
VH1 is gay as hell, living in this era of shitty music, shouldnt make a list for the 90's.
Ugh. Son, I am dissapoint. :U
@mike - Get a life.
this list is simply the "most popular songs of the 90s," not the "most timeless songs of the 90s that still sound good today." i bet most people wouldn't be caught dead playing some of these songs today, or having them on their Ipod. and there's a reason why you don't hear these songs on the radio anymore. i sure don't know anyone who still listens to Backstreet Boys, Britney, Christina, N'sync, Hanson, Spice Girls, MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Celine Dion, Ricky Martin, C+C Music Factory, etc. this list is more like a 90s pop music canon for people to look back on and say, "wow, we actually loved those songs back then?"
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is one of my favorite songs, but I'm really dissapointed because "Everlong" by Foo Fighters in my ALL TIME favorite song and it didn't make the list
Uuuhh backstreet boys are like, not that good, and michael jackson had more and better songs than most on this list. This list is amateur!
u ppl got probs mtv is fun to watch if u wanna see music videos got to youtube
Wheres gangster paradise by coolio????????
um BLACK OR WHITE - Michael Jackson
janet - together again?

I agree with your mom.
People are bound to have differing opinions when you have to cut ten years of music down to 100 songs.
It won't all be Black or White.
So stop arguing turds.
I'm surprised none of Ace of Base's or No Doubt's stuff made it to this list.
where's michael jackson- black and white???
where's michael jackson- black and white???
This list is definitely missing some really good songs... Truly madly deeply, jumpin jumpin, desert rose, candle in the wind! nyways overall the list was good
I don't think i see Wind of change by Scorpions. They deserve to be on top
blue by eiffel 65 should be on there
Dang! Talk about nostalgia
the top 10 songs on this list should be purely by Sublime. end of story
Closer is one of the sexiest songs of all time, yet it doesn't make this list?! WTF
I LOOOOVVVVEEEE the 90'S ...they were Gettin in hard
"Baby got Back" #6, really? That piece of crap? I wish popularity didn't equal quality for so many people.
But when you have no criteria for quality, what can you expect. You forgot to separate the wheat from the chaff on your list.
Peace,
Tex Shelters
Brings me memories too. great hub. ;)
damn love that list Great memories
Good times never ends!! great list!!
Makes me feel like a kid again
Could someone tell me why Sublime is on here?
This list is dumpy. Seriously. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but man. For one, Smells Like Teen Spirit is an average song at best. I'd put Heart Shaped Box ahead of that song. Why am I even wasting time talking about Nirvana? I heard them on the radio eight times today, and I don't even listen to the radio. Where is Enjoy the Silence, Teardrop, Regret, Grace, It was a Good Day, Regulate, Return of the Mack,Weak,Plowed, First of the Month, Pink Cigarette, Pingpong, Friday I'm in Love, Dear Mama, or anything close to a decent song on this list. List is for Casey Kasem followers. Damn.
This is the reason I search online for a time machine.
This is the reason I search online for a time machine.
Have time machines hit the market?
How does Everlong miss the list? It's quintessential 90's!
I'm not gonna rant about how bad this list is, but rather how some bands were completely omitted from this list. It just goes to show poeple don't have good taste in music.
Here's some examples: Primus, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, Butthole Surfers, Cake, Collective Soul, The Flaming Lips, Foo Fighters, Gorillaz, Modest Mouse, Sublime, etc...
I love the Naveronohs music is all from the same genre, notice this list is from VH1 - a top forty programme, not a random angry rage band programme.
p.s butthole surfers? yeah
At least do your homework before you start raging on my comment, they're definently not all the same genre.
horrible list were is "CROSSROADS" by BONE THUGS
why isnt there any SELENA songs..HORRIBBLE LIST
Um, Green Day #37?
What about Longview?
Or Basket Case?
Or When I Come Around?
And 37?
REALLY!?
that is hands down my favorit song of the 90's
ok so this list was based off of charts in the 90's so for those who think that other bands should be on this list then they should of had highly ranked hits that made it on the charts, sorry but quit complaining. For some people these songs bring back great memories so to put this down and calling this list crap is simply opinion NOT FACT!
well, this list is crap, but i agree with you that this list was mostly based of off 1990s Billboard pop chart top 20 hits, with a few exceptions thrown in there. that's why you don't see many good 90s rock songs on here. pop stations in the 90s hardly played any of the good alternative rock, or good rock in general, that you'd hear on rock stations back then. that's why they mostly just went for the most popular hits that were big on pop radio when assembling this list, which makes it surprising, however, that they didn't include Boyz II Men or Ace of Base on here.
eh ( fller because my comment was rather short )
WHERE THE $%&^ IS MICHAEL JACKSON?!?!
He was the greatest artist who ever lived. He made better, & more meaningful songs than anybody. And he every song he made in the 90s were great.
Does VH1 not rememeber.
"Black or White"
"Remember the Time"
"Heal the World"
"Earth Song"
"You Are Not Alone"
"They Don't Care About Us"
COME ON!
A MUSIC LIST IS NOT A MUSIC LIST WITHOUT THE KING OF MUSIC!
LET'S GO VH1, LET'S BE SMART HERE!!!
hate to break it to you, Pao, but MJ kinda sucked for the majority of the 90s. sure, Dangerous was a good album, but that came out in '91, and it was all downhill after that. the HIStory album, well just Disc 2, from '95 sucked pretty badly. i really could only see Black or White as being a good enough song from his 90s output to make the list. certainly not one of his overly-dramatic "change the world" songs like Heal the World or Earth Song. the real surprise is the fact that his sister Janet isn't on the list. she had plenty of number 1 hits in the 90s and was right up there with Mariah and Whitney in terms of 1990s diva popularity.
I want to see a list with the best music on there, not necessarily the most popular. In some cases, there is a big difference (i.e. The Backstreet Boys/Brittney Spears). I'm having a really hard time understanding how there isn't any Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, or any other great bands that made 90's music what it is. When I think 90's, I'm not thinking Spears and Backstreet Boys... Just saying...
Yeah, MTV sucks ass, this songs are boring and not cool, naw just kidding, I'm bored just writing randomshit, the truth is that I dont really give a shit about this songs or the damn 90's, I'm doing a research for school abut this point in time, ok then suckas I'm out,
RANDOMMMMMMMMMM
Pretty good but a few things:
1) Creep should be # 1
2)Freedom should be like top 10 and its not even there
3) Bullet With Butterfly Wings should be there
I agree with almost nothing on this list!!!!! only damn they got right was nirvana!!!!! No smashing pumpkins?????!!!!!
how bout Breakfast at Tiffany's by deep blue something! where is Ozzy? no more tears was a huge song!!!!! So was mama I'm coming home!!!!! Backstreet boys at #3???!!! how do five homos get #3 when the price of darkness is left out! Where is "if you could only see by tonic? that was huge too!!! vh1 cannot make a decent 100 greatest list of anything!!!1
The 90s was an okay decade for music. The bubblegum pop bimbos like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera were such shit and the boy bands were all crappy singers but the 90s was mostly good. NIN should have been on here though. The Smashing Pumpkins not being here is a tragedy. How in creation did the Macarena not get on here? Don't get me wrong ,I hate that song ,but it is the greatest one hit wonder of all time! BNL's song should have been If I Had A 1,000,000. So much better than One Week! Green Day should have had one more song ,Welcome to Paradise ,Longview ,or Basket Case ,all could have been on there. Tonic ,Deep Blue Something ,and ,like them or not ,Smash Mouth ,should have all been on there. Mambo number 5 should have been there too. I'm sorry people but ,apart from the pot smokers of the decade ,no one knows sublime. Nelson looked like two sweeddish bimbos in the 90s. I'm glad they cut their hair. Alice In Chains should have had Would on there as well. In chart standings that song was much higher than Man On The Box and since this list is based on the pop charts ,(as evidence by all bimbo pop ,boy bands ,and rap crap ), that should have been on the list. Nirvana needed more representation as well. They could have at least put In Bloom on the list to go with Smells Like Teen Spirit. The 90s were an okay decade for music but this list needs some huge changes.

Sublime SUCKS!!!!!!! People PLEASE get over it! Those pot head retards should not be on any greatest list ,unless it it the greatest pot smoking songs list. I bet the entire list is Sublime then! But they do not deserve to be on the 100 greatest songs of the 90s list! They do not deserve to even be on the 1000 greatest songs of the 90s list! Wake up world PLEASE!!!!
It's a disgrace that not one single Michael Jackson song has made it in the top 100!!!!
i can't believe people are complaining about Michael Jackson not being on the 90s list. people forget that his music in the 90s wasn't all that great, and that it got REALLY bad once he put on the laughable HIStory album in '95. the 80s was the decade of MJ's good music, not the 90s. the people whining on here are probably teenagers who didn't experience how irrelevant and unpopular MJ was in the 90s, because they were too young or not even alive. i remember how starting in 1993, when i was 12 and MJ had his first child molestation accusation, and afterward, MJ was the butt of every joke kids came up with in junior high and high school. kids would make fun of you if you said you liked him. he was definitely not cool for most of the 90s. and yeah, i also agree with those people above that Sublime sucked. i also find it strange how they included all the pop crap from the 90s, like the boybands and pop bimbos, but they included heavy songs like Alice in Chains' Man in the Box, which was never a pop hit and song that most people wouldn't know. they need to make a separate best ROCK songs of the 90s list. you can't have Hanson and Celine Dion right next to actual good artists like Metallica and Beastie Boys on a "best songs" list.
hi hi hi hi hi hi
where is meatloaf (i would do anything for love )
First why aren't there more Nirvana songs? They were by far the best band of the 90s and to ever exist? Second where are the smashing pumpkins they were better than three fourths of this list and why no more greenday? I don't get it!!!!!!!!!! P.S the backstreet boys are for suckups with no life and 5 year olds
Why is there no SmashMouth! WTF!
i was born 1996 and i ABSOLUTLY LOVE BACKSTREET!
number 39 is how I found this great hub...thanks for bringing them back
ahhhhhhhhhhhh
This is the funniest thread ever
Someone said awhile ago that ''the singer of blink-182 sounds like a whiney bitch in their songs''.....Whiney bitch or not, blink has defined a generation with their music which is why they deserve a spot in this list.
Other than that, I would have liked to see No Doubt and a few others in this list. Oh well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Not a bad list, actually.
NO F'n SAVAGE GARDEN IM RATTLED
Good list, but I actually like this one better, espicially since it gives you links to download all the songs:
this is how it should of gone. Britney spears should of been #1 then TLC,Biggie,Spice Girls,Christina aguilera. get BSB out of the list and the rest is fine.
How can the Smashing Pumpkins not be on this list? 1979 is by far my favorite song of the 90's. There should be more Red Hot Chili Peppers too.

ok there are many things wrong with this list. First of all where are: Rage against the machine, Smashing Pumpkins, Guns N' Roses, Boyz 11 Men, Smash Mouth, and for God sakes wheres The Foo Fighters.
Anyone wants to explain to me how Backstreet Boys are #3, REALLY?. How is Britney Spears #7/ Why is Oasis #35 it should be top 5. I agree though with the top two though.
Obviously VH1 got it all WRONG leaving the Great BOYZ II MEN! U wonder what the hell they were thinking! Uh oh.... must've been some typographical error.
Ah! 90's, the days when music used to be about real love not about what it is now.
today songs like I Wanna F*** you have become great hits.2000's is/was a horrible era,90's was maybe the best.
BSB deserved to be in the top 10,though not a 3 and Britney certainly didn't deserve it.

AGUILERA RULES!!!!
REALITY KILLED MTV
where are the red hot chili peppers?
Yes, the compiler of this list DID forget "November Rain" - maybe they need to brush up on their 90s music??
This list is a piece of crap.
interesting how a lot of these songs were on Rolling Stone's recent "Worst songs of the 90s" list. with this chart, i think they were mostly going for the biggest hits on the pop charts in the 90s, and as i recall, there weren't many rock songs or even good songs in general that were big pop hits in the 90s, unlike the 80s, which saw a lot of good rock songs become pop hits.
i`m so inot the 90`s and 80`s music they rock well some of em..still tryna find one song that i like came out like 8 or 9 yrs ago don`t remeber the artist`s name but i`ll find it..And would love to say Hi to everyone..

ok i have a serious problem with this where is all of the rock music. half or this shit was on the radio for like 3 weeks max. wheres smashing pumpkins. and where is bon jovi. and whats with the like 3 country songs. obviously the ppl who wrote this list didnt poll ppl from the 90's
Ok who ever picks the songs are wack where is Michael Jackson or TLC or Aaliyah. Come on people good music is what I'm looking for not half a$$ stuff
im pretty sure the song Ants Marching by dave matthews band pretty much sums up the whole 1990s but idk why its not on here

OK, so here I was about to wax satyrical about the old days, but here I have sh*tloads of other old farts doin the same dam thing....man I feel old...and I only just turned 38 TODAY! Yay, my birthday anniversary!....
This new crap just don't do it for me anymore, especially since this bullsh*t (insert nationality here) Idol came along.
Simon Clown should be ashamed...supposed to be a big music producer, yet reduced to trying to commercialise his friggin job...way to go loser.
Can't find them on his own,so he needs other has-beens to try and find the next flash-in-the-pan.
Way to go, douchebag.
Now we gotta waste our time listening to the crap you had to listen to when you started off...@sshole.
Screw you for inundating our earholes with rubbish, when there were perfectly good tunes to listen to in the friggin first place.
BTW, who remembers who won one of those FIVE YEARS AGO? And do you still listen to them?
Didn't think so.
There's a reason why they get called classics. Everybody knows them, even if it's just a passing knowledge of the melody.
IDOL MUST DIE!!!!
Let's put that clown out of a job.
Nuff said.
Peace out, Y'awl
Ninedollarbill ;)
Whoa..how did Step by Step by NKOTB not make the list?? That was one of the biggest songs in the early 90's
I think "Believe" by Cher should be into the first 30th songs.
hhhhhhh
Nice!!! New Kids on the Block have been given a miss very very conviniently! Vh1...have u heard 'Step by Step'? That was one of the biggest hit of the 90s. This list is incomplete without NKOTB being on it. LONG LIVE THE BLOCK!!

You can tell this was written by a bunch of chicks by looking up the top ten... Seriously get the boy bands and Madonna off a top 10 list for 90's music. Madonna and boy bands are as intellectually stimulating as nails on a chalkboard.
Mariah carey visiohn of love song is the 90's song she hits high notes so high that you cant help but hear her over the other 90's artists with a 5 octave range
Mariah carey visiohn of love song is the 90's song she hits high notes so high that you cant help but hear her over the other 90's artists with a 5 octave range

No Rain- Blind Melon....where is it?? 1979- Smashing Pumpkins?? I love the backstreet boys lol they are my favorite boy band. I am glad Nsync didn't make it though. There are plenty of amazing songs this missed, but at the same time there are some great ones on here.
They have Achy Breaky Heart. This list is invalid.
Why is vision of love number 14? It should at least be in the top five and there should be more Mariah songs on the list. Who made this list...a deaf person? Were you people even around in the 90s? This list sucks and I think most people would agree.
Destiny's child say my name best song of the late 90's on this list.

And Spears, the BSB, Madonna, Sir Mix-A-Lot, NSYNC, Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, Christina Aguilira, Hanson, Ricky Martin, Right Said Fred, Gerardo, Billy Ray Cyrus, Nelson, and especially the Spice Girls should all be taken off this list. q- how the hell can you make a top 90's list without bon jovi and gnr?????????????????????
where is what is love by haddaway?
Alright now seriously, where is the smashing pumpkins? This must be some sort of a troll
where's tudhumping? or steal my sunshine? and lets not forget bloodhound gang bad touch!
Funny how you guys think you know so much about music because you like rock bands and bash all pop groups out there. Even if you don't want to see it, they were talented and better singers and dancers than today's artists. Broaden your horizons a bit and don't be so judgmental on pop music and just let yourself enjoy music for what it is and not the image behind it. Rock fans care more about a bands image than pop fans even though they think it's the other way around. You guys freak out too much. Getting upset because I want it that way is 3rd? It's one of the best pop songs of all TIME. And they really are great singers. And besides, MTV is centered around pop music anyway
i agree with most of the comments. wheres the good songs we all use to listen to.
Unbreak My Heart????
Someone tell me why U2 is on this list and why they are number 2? I didn't even know of that song until I watched this and I grew up on 90s music. Did only old people vote or something?
i like micheal jackson
I remember VH1!!! Lol. Where Is it now?
everlong didn't make the cut? now that's some bullshit.
Surprised Billy Joel's River of Dreams is not on the list. It did reach number 3 on the Billboard 100 in 1993...
but what about THE OFFSPRING?????????????????????????
This is a great list. Great Job.
this should be called the best radio releases of the 90's I was a Seattle teen in the 90's and yes nirvana rocked but there are way better songs they did and marcys playground had way better songs this list is so trendy what a joke good songs but come on do a real music list not what played on the radio big lame from me
are you guys stupid, what about november rain, that held the charts for the whole of 1991
Haha this is a very old thread and November rains definitely a must.
Mariah carey vision of love and Destiny's Child Say My Name are two of the best songs of the 90's on this vh1 list.
Mariah Carey deserves to be number 1 she owned the 90's as far as her 5-7 octave vocal range she is one of the greatest singers and celebrity in hollywood love Mariah Carey.
What? Good list, but when I think of a list of great songs from the 90's era, I think of songs that still carry on today. Where's candlebox? Where's easy e? Wheres TLC? George straight? Garth brooks? The last of the true country era was in the 90's! The beginning of the hip hop Compton era was in the 90's. You had so many break through bands that are setting examples, even today. How many people out there jammed to "bobby Magee", "waterfalls", "far behind", "boyz in da hood", "changes", "should of been a cowboy", "callin baton rouge", "shameless", in don't even have to post who sings these songs. That's how awesome they were. Tim McGraw was at his best in the 90's, who am I kidding everyone hit it best in the 90's. But the list should not include songs that stayed in the 90's. Such as, Hanson, presidents of the united states, beck.. Etc.
Not really sure what they are basing it on. It clearly isn't by sales as Elton John's "Candle In The Wind" would be #1. It isn't based on chart performance as Nirvana just barely cracked the top 10 when it came out with "Smells Like Teen Spirit." There's more accurate listings. www.musicinthenineties.com has some good lists based on chart performance.
Can anyone remember a video from the 90s where a guy is in a street warnign people that a storm or something is coming. He then ties himself to a tree or a pole and when the storm comes he survives.
I like the list and it introduced me to a lot of great songs, like Alice in Chains or The Breeders, which I would have never known.
Other than Backstreet Boys, Destiny's Child and Britney, I also like the Top 20, and beyond.
It is great to see Oasis and Spin Doctors, among others get some recognition.
I also like the variety, but then I stop here.
Destiny's child say my name love the video best song and video of the 90's love beyonce knowles great dancer she is and beautiful as well.
Destiny's child say my name made the 90's list it may didnt chart in the 90's but it still made vh1 100 greatest songs of the 90's list ha ha ha ha ha. And it did chart in the 90's it went to number 1 in the USA ha ha.
Destiny's child say my name made the list yayyyy I love that because destiny's child came out in the late 90's but still made this 90's list I love that.
Destiny's child Say my Name is a great 90's song, but I did not know howie dorough of the Backstreet Boys was half Puerto Rican, and where is 5ive song when the lights go out that song is a great 90's song too as well.
Alright, where is Dope Show from Marilyn Manson?
And how about Madonna? Vogue? Justify My Love? Like a Prayer? WTF KIND OF A LIST IS THIS?
Destiny's child said it all with that one verse of the 90's song Say My Name that's a great song of the late 90's and it deserved to make the vh1 90's list, but Eduardo is right where is the song When the lights go out by the Boy Band 5ive another great band of the 90's.
bring back old memories i like it!!!!!!!!!
Destiny's child Say My Name great song of the 90's Beyonce Knowles sang the whole song in the vide and all we seen was Beyonce Knowles in the music video, Mariah Carey should be number 1 especially with that 5 octave vocal range vision of love song. Love Destiny's Child and Mariah Carey, but where is the Boy Band 5ive when the lights go out another great 90's song.
Ah the 90s....... The era of the VJ ,the technicolor ski jacket and yes the VHS.... Just wiggle the tracking button
Destiny's child Say My Name I agree Absolutely it needs to be on this 90's list great 90's song.
i love some of these songs!!!!!!!!!!
Destiny's child Say My Name was a hit song of the 90's I couldn't believe they put Say My Name a late 90's song ranked at number 17, the Destiny's Child Say My Name song was a 1999 song, they need to put 5ive When the lights go Out on this 90's list as well.
Destiny's child Say My Name great 90's song, New Radicals You get what you give another great 90's song, the 1990's- 90's rocked.
Destiny's Child Say My Name that's all I really have to say is what a great girl group and Say My Name great 90's song. Beyonce Knowles is a fantastic 4ancer her Dance skills are splendid.
Destiny's Child Say My Name that's all I really have to say is what a great girl group and Say My Name great 90's song. Beyonce Knowles is a fantastic 4ancer her Dance skills are splendid.
I think Destiny's Child Say My Name should be number 1, because the song brings back memories for everybody who is a 90's baby.
Ricky Martin is a Puerto Rican, and I am Half Puerto Rican and I love that they put Ricky Martin a Puerto Rican on this list, and other Hispanics that made this vh1 90's list Hispanics such as Gerardo, Christina Aguilera Howie Dorough is Puerto Rican of the Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin and I heard Mariah Carey is Half Afro-venezuelan, and I love Destiny's Child Say My Name song this list is a great 90's list.
I agree there are alot of Hispanic Latino artist on vh1 100 greatest songs of the 90's list The Hispanics are Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin, Howie Dorough of the Backstreet Boys is Puerto Rican, Gerardo Rico Suave, and Christina Aguilera is half Ecuador which is Hispanic and I think that Hispanics had alot of Popularity in the 90'.s
You forgot one more Hispanic on this vh1 100 greatest songs of the 90's list, and that one more Hispanic you forgot was Fieldy of the Heavy Metal Band Korn, Fieldy is Half Hispanic Latino, he is Half Mexican there are alot of Hispanics on this vh1 90's list, there are 6 Hispanic artist on this 90's list I think that is so cool and so 90's.
Destiny's child Say My Name has my vote love this late 90's song.
I remember the Disney show Smart Guy, and I remember Destiny's Child made an appearance on the Show and performed the No No No part 2 Song, and it was so great, so 90's, because Beyonce Knowles was awesomely killing the Dance Routine and the Smart Guy Sitcom with Destiny's Child as a special guests brings back so much 90's memories for me being that I grew up in the 90's, and Destiny's Child Say My Name song made the vh1 100 greatest songs of the 90's list and was their best 90's song in the 90's love and miss the 90's.
I remember Destiny's Child on the WB/Disney show Smart Guy, and they were wearing FUBU clothes Dancing awesomely as well andand it just bring back so much 90's memories for me too I was 8 years old when I seen Destiny's Child on the Smart Guy Sitcom with Tahj Mowry, and Destiny's Child performed on the show it was so cheesy but the Dance moves were great and 90's, Destiny's Child Say My Name came out in 1999 later on and became a huge 90's hit song in the late 90's, Beyonce Knowles is now People Magazine World's most beautiful woman now and had a baby and is considered one of the best Dancers of All Time now today.
wow SO many songs were left out! but this is the most popular 100 songs! we have sooooo many memories! it is nice to listen to all these songs. 90's was the last decade to mean something before RAP took over. long live the 90's
I was born on August, 8, 1990 and I was just getting started to just really enjoy growing up in the 90's being that I was born in the year 1990, and I just remember all of these 90's songs especially me growing up listening to Mariah Carey, TLC, Destiny's Child, The Fugees, Digital Underground, Missy Elliot, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and I enjoyed every last decade growing up in the 90's, but my favorite 90's artists on this list is Destiny's Child and their 90's song that I love so much Say My Name.
hey all, been racking my brain ever since I came across this thread.
maybe someone can help me, there was a psychodelic/retro 90's band with a song called Kinky Aria or kinkii area..... cannot recall the bands name or the song title
help?!
Ummm... 'Closer' by Nine Inch Nails ANYONE!?
Greatest songs of the 90's? What a crock! No Boyz II Men. Really? Biggest selling group of the 90's and not 1 song? A lot of the songs on here are not even the artists' best songs of the 90's let alone the best of the 90's in general. Lenny Kravitz "It Ain't Over Til It's Over" Pearl Jam "Betterman" and Mariah Carey "Always Be My Baby" or "One Sweet Day". Horrible Horrible list
RYAN shut up, Destiny's Child Say My Name best late 90's song of All time..
These are my top favorite artists I grew up listening to in the 90's that made memories for me, Mariah Carey, TLC, Destiny's Child, The Fugees, Digital Underground, and Missy Elliot, but my favorute artist of All Time on this list is DESTINY'S CHILD and their 90's hit SAY MY NAME.
whats up
KK, you talking to me because I love Destiny's Child Say My Name 90's song.
Destiny's Child was not all that great in the 90's, they were okay Say My Name song is an okay song Eduardo.
Ummmm, Pearl jam is not on the list! really!
Korn should've been ranked higher, where's limp bizkit, rage against the machine, staind, slipknot, foo fighters, sublime??
Destiny's Child Say My Name was ranked number 17, that is ranked wayyyy too high for Destiny's Child a girl group that only was around in the late 90's and Mariah Carey should of been number 2 because she is 90's the song Vision Of Love was the best 90's song on the list and TLC Waterfalls should of been ranked number 3, that's just my opinion.
Only one Counting Crows song?!?! Long December should be on that list!!!!
http://hits90music.blogspot.com/
this is my site with music90
wow a lot of comments over 3 years miss the the 90's when music was music.
Destiny's Child Say My Name best song in the 90's great music video too.
Love the Hispanic and Latin artists on this 90's vh1 list, Ricky Martin the best Puerto Rican artust on this list love Christina Aguilera she is half Ecuador, love Fieldy of Korn he is Half Mexican, love Howie Dorough of the Backstreet Boys he is half- Puerto Rican, like Gerardo Rico Suave he is Ecuador love Mariah Carey she is half Afro- Venezuelan there are Alot of Hispanic artist on this vh1 100 greatest songs of the 90's list and I love it, because I am half Puerto Rican myself and I am glad to see Alot of Latin Artists on this 90's list.
Rage Against The Machine should have been on here for sure. That band redefined rap music and rock music. Not many bands can claim that. And again, where's Smashing Pumpkins? Blur? Verve? And Alice In Chains should have been in the top 5. Same with Pearl Jam. Grunge should be dominating the list. Not worthless one-hit-wonders. At LEAST Nirvana made it to the top. They were the band of the 90s. (And what about Otherside by Red Hot Chili Peppers???)
Backstreet Boys were the only band I could ever buy all the albums and listen to all the songs and actually like every song. In my book, they'll always be number one. A lot of those other people just suck! Backstreet fan forever!!
Destiny's Child Say My Name is by far the best 90's song on this list, because they ranked at number 17 on this vh1 90's list, and I think that is really good for Destiny's Child being that they weren't around in the early or mid 90's, Destiny's Child were more of late 90's so being that they rank high at number 17 I think that's pretty Damn Good for Destiny's Child/ Beyonce Knowles.
Let's all remember the plp voted! This shit cracks me up I love baby but number 3 that's crazy
VHI is obviously snubbing MIchael Jackson. Stupid poll!
Foo Fighters should have been in the top 100 for a loat of their songs. That's why I kind of hate Vh1. They start off and end with some badass songs, but in the middle, it kind of feels like they just threw random shit in there. :\
I think this list is shit because I feel that Mariah Carey Vision Of Love should be number 1, and Destiny's Child Say My Name song should be number 2, and Korn Freak On A Leash shoul be number 19, and Alice In Chains Man In The Box should be number 3 Bitches.
Pretty good list, but The Offspring should have been on there and more of Green Day and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Oh Smash Mouth and Foo Fighters should be on there too
#78 is actually Semisonic-"Closing Time"
no bone thugs n harmony what a shame
Makes me feel old
They changed the list a little bit, because Lenny Kravitz Are you gonna go my Way was #78 now they replaced Lenny Kravitz with Semisonic Closing Time song at #78, and they took 2pac off of the list and they took Prince off of the list and they took BLACKstreet from off of the list and replaced them with other 90's songs on VH1 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's list I just think God that they did not take any of my 90's artists off of the list that I grew up listening to in the 90's i'm Glad they did not take Missy Elliot off of the list and I am Glad that VH1 did not take Destiny's Child SAY MY NAME Song off of the 90's ewwwwwww thank God.
Where is anything by rage against the machine? Seriously, one of the most influential and controversial bands of the 90's.
come on.......no offspring? SELF ESTEEM!!!!!! Still a HUGE hit. Gone Away is one of the offspring's best songs. And I agree michael jackson was still huge in the 90's.
Why is Oasis Wonderwall song ranked and voted number 35 that song should be #5, and Destiny's Child Say My Name song should be #4, Oasis Liam Gallagher is the best and his brother Noell Gallagher.
Destiny's Child Say My Name I will always love, but Korn Freak On The Leash is by far the best song on this list as well I remember when I first seen the Korn music video for Freak On The Leash and I r#member that Bullet just kept flying through my t.v. And I thought the Bullet was coming towards my way and that really brought back 90's memories for me and Korn Freak On The Leash song, Jonathan Davis is a great rock screamer whenever he sings, Fieldy of Korn is a great Bassist and I Love Destiny's Child Say My Name when I first heard that song I was trippin' I was like Wowww this is the shit I love SAY MY NAME Song by Destiny's Child I remember the music video too as well I remember Beyonce Knowles Dance moves in the video, and I was 9 years old when Say My Name song of Destiny's Child came out and it id a great thing to see songs you grew up listening to in the 90's and it's a great thing to see your favorite 90's artists make the VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's List, Long Live the 90's that I am glad to say I was apart of when I Grew up in the 90's.
I like how everyone says this list sucks because there's not a certain song by a certain band on it. Just because you like it, doesn't mean everyone else does. Get over it.
BEEN CAUGHT STEALING not on list? Ridiculous.
I have to disagree with this list glad to know Whitney was in top 5 as she should be it was the biggest song of the 90's but there are tons of R&B songs missing from this list where the hell is The Boy Is Mine, End Of The Road VH1 ur list of topp anything are always a mess
As much as i love Eminem and all, how the hell is My name is, ranked above california love?! 2pac's song is a west coast classic!
Ummmmm JAMES they took 2pac off of the VH1's 100 Greatest Songs Of The 90's List just recently brother Sorry, they replaced 2pac California Love with Craig Mack Flava In Ya Ear Song at #51, watch th# list they showed the list today on t.v. And VH1. And by the way Destiny's Child Say My Name best 90's song on this So 90's List.
Miss Genesis here... Genesis had a few top ten hits in the 90's too and i am not talking bout "I can't dance". But songs like "No Son Of Mine" were even #1 in germany i think (in 1991).
Too bad Meet Virginia by Train didn't make it. Loved that song. And Counting Blue Cars by Dishwalla was quite great. Could both draw air time if they were released today.
I can't find my socks. I can't find my damn socks.
Mariah Carey and Destiny's Child have my Vote, Mariah Carey five- octave vocal range she can hit the highest high note that only Dogs can hear with the song Vision Of Love, and Destiny's Child are sultry they had Smooth voices and Dance Routines enough to shake a romp at especially with the song Say My Name best 90's songs and 90's Artist(s).
Destiny's Child Say My Name has to be one of the best 90's song on this List I totally agree with EDUARDO he is right on this one, and I don't think Nirvana Smells Like Teen Spirit should not be #1 that song I Don't really remember that song I never even heard of Nirvana, but I think Mariah Carey Vision Of Love song should be the #1 song of the decade because Mariah Carey can sing and hit high notes that everybody wish they can do and this is my Comment.
wheres bush glycerine one of the best songs then and not even biggie was not on there or puff daddy when he made the tribute song of biggie and foo fighters should have been on that list shit job by the people voting
i totally agree with the list and the reason why creep was under backstreetboys songs is because it obviously was a bigger hit and on top longer no one remembers the song creep unless theyre in to that kind of music but everyone knows the backstreet boys whether you like them or not
I watched this and just realized they didn't have anything by Blink 182 or No Doubt. They should have deffinatly been on this list.
BULLET WITH BUTTERFLY WINGS. That being said....I will never agree with a list that includes Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Hansen and the Spice Girls. I did enjoy the trip down memory lane, though.
Destiny's Child SAY MY NAME I Love.
What about November Rain? Estranged? To Be With You? More Than Words? Forever? Youth Gone Wild?
How can you have will smith ...and not Eric Clapton ..tears in heaven ...this is crazy
Will Smith???? What about Nine Inch Nails - Closer
Who ever the voters are for placing these songs in their current order are seriously Misguided. Next time please listen to the songs before you vote, I mean really, Baby got back in the top ten? How do you expect anyone to take VH1 serious?
what about michael jackson
Whoever made & decided on this list should be fired for not knowing & recognizing one of the greatest songs of the 90's...Don't Speak from No Doubt..the break-up anthem of all time!!
Mariah Carey Five-Octave Vocal Range is a Winner MARIAH should be #1 on this List with Vision Of Love, and Mariah Carey also has the ability to reach High Notes Beyond the 7th Octave and she is Famed for her use of the Whistle Register so that means Mariah Carey Singing Covers over Eight-Octaves wow I think Mariah Carey was more Famous of the 90's than Nirvana I never even heard of Nirvana and I was Born in 1990 so that means that I am a 90's Baby but I never heard of Nirvana but I Absolutely heard and know the Music of Mariah Carey and that high Opera Singing Vocals she have, I Have All of Mariah Carey Albums and Filmography she is one of my Favorite 90's Artists on this List and is one of the Biggest and I do mean (ONE) of the Biggest Celebrities in Hollywood and Greatest Singers of All Time.
wait Where the f*** is The Verve-Bittersweet Symphony or Lucky man. How could they leave them out they must have made a very very bad mistake of forgeting which i dont know how they could those songs are so late 90s. the music industry these days! its a shame.
Mariah Carey FiveOctave Vocal Range, and that's all I have to say.
Wow...overall a very poor list. You got a few right but to leave out Tonic, Bush, Space Hogs(one hit wonder), Better than Ezra, Smashing Pumpkins...I'm just getting started.
Sorry it was Spacehog...also how about Tool, Everclear, Stone Temple Pilots, and some great one hit wonders like The Toadies, Silverchair (15 year old lead singer), Hole, and Fastball. I'm sorry, but if you put "I'm Too Sexy" on the list then you're just making a mockery of everyone who gave a damn about the music they wrote, the instruments they took years to learn how to play and the songs they sang!
The Offspring Self Esteem.
Chumbawumba Tubthumping.
Nirvana In Bloom.
Ozzy Osbourne No More Tears.
Tonic If You Could Only See.
Deep Blue Something Breakfast At Tiffany's.
Candlebox Far Behind.
Metallica Nothing Else Matters.
Days Of The New Touch, Peel, and Stand.
Semisonic Closing Time.
Red Hot Chili Peppers Give It Away Now.
Barenaked Ladies If I Had 1,000,000.
Smash Mouth All Star.
Kiss God Gave Rock And Roll To You.
Faith No More Midlife Crises.
Smashing Pumpkins Bullet With Butterfly Wings.
White Zombie More Human Than Human.
AC/DC Thunderstruck.
Godsmack Keep Away.
Green Day Baskat Case.
All of those should've been on the list.
Wow! So much memories.
I Love Mariah Carey and I Love Destiny's zchild those are my Favorite 90's Artists on this List.
mo money mo problems
i am sick of all these commenters saying "where is Michael Jackson?" or "why was Michael Jackson snubbed?" etc. seriously, i'll bet most of them are teenage girls who have no idea that Michael Jackson's music career was pretty much dead in the 90s, because they were just babies at the time. it was the decade that MJ started to get REALLY weird, and he started to go into his own little world and quit focusing on music. his only real hit of the decade was "Black or White" from 1991.
Listening to AllStar by Smashmouth.. Feel like they missed one.. hmmm..
Great list,though.. Gonna go on a youtube hunt now.. Yay! xD
This list is too bad! There's no Toni Braxton's songs!
Too Bad Destiny's Child Say My Name Song was not Number #1 I really wanted that Song to be # 1 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's List.
where's code red, 911, take that, twist and shout, 98 degrees, inner circle, jewel, Crimson & Clover, Jane Arden, 10000 Maniacs, fleetwood mac, Jimmy Eat World, Dishwala, Sixpence None the Richer, Bewitched, n'sync, five, Shawn Colvin, sheryl crow, natalie imbruglia, Cold, journey, crowded house,
I was born 1990 so that means I grew up surrounded by nothingg but 90's Actuvities and Music because I was born in the Early 90's, I grew up in the 90's Listening to Mariah Carey, TLC, Destiny's Child, The Fugees, Digital Underground, and Missy Elliot these 90's Artists made me out to be a 90's Baby being that I was born August 8th, 1990. And I also grew up in the 00's Listening to Aaliyah and Beyonce Knowles Music of the 00's but my heart just belongs to the 90's I guess because I got to see all of the things and experience all of the things in the 90's I am glad to say I was Apart of the 90's most people wasn't even born in the 90's but I am glad to say I wasssss born in the 90's.
Destiny's Child Say My Name without a Doubt best Song on this 90s List when I first heard Say My Name I was in Love with the Beginning of the Song And of course I was in Love with the Music Video Beyonce Knowles was hot in the 90's.
Seriously this list is so bias to rap! Wheres I'll be missing you, Juicy, Dear mama, Changes, I think this was made by a racist, just me?
Destiny's Child Say My Name made when start telling us Men to start Saying their Name in Public Basically Say You Love Me in Front of Everybody and that started in the Late 90's 90s and Beyonce Knowles started that and now it Ain't Ending.
Destiny's Child Say My Name I choose all the way (Best Song of the 90's).
I was born on August 8th 1990 so that makes me a 90's Kid and for all you people commenting on this Site if you were born in 1997 or 1998 or 1996 or 1999 or 1995 Does not make tou a 90's Kid you have to be born in the Early 90's in order to be a 90's Kid or 90's Baby if you were Born in '97 i'm sorry you are not a 90's Kid you didn't get a chance to experience all of 2he 90s toys music, television shows and '90s world me I was Born in 1990 so that means I am a True 90's Kid because I was Born in the Early '90s, I remember everything 90's like the Super Nintendo and Mariah Carey Music. And Destiny's Child Songs and the Kenan and Kel Show.
Hey!what about Dr Alban Its My Life.what's wrong with you guys?
Mariah Carey Five-Octave Vocal Range and has the ability to go beyond Notes reaching the 7th Octave she's a Genius anybody with a Singing Voice like Mariah really deserves to be the best selling female artist of the '90s and 90's and 90s and 1990's and '1990s and 1990s love Mariah Carey and her high pitch scream it give my Dogs Seizures, but I love Mariah Carey she is the best Artist of the 90s hands-Down. She is one of the Greatest Voices/ Singers in Hollywood she is a Belter she Belts her High Notes out Hard she is a Celebrity. Love Mariah Carey she Absolutely deserves to be Ranked on VH-1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's and she deserves to be Voted on VH1's 40 Greatest R&B Songs of the 90s and deserves to be Voted on VH-1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 00's. Love Mariah Carey. With her Half Black and Half White Mixed beautiful Biracial Self she has my Vision of Love anyday.
Was "Back That Thang Up" not released in the 90s?
High and Dry by Radiohead deserves to be on.. And they should put better rap songs
What happened to Janet and Micheal Jackson, both were not listed and should have been. Dr Dre, Ice Cube, and so many more were missing!
I am so glad I am a '90s Kid I was Born in 1990 and for all of the '90s Kids in here if you were Born in the Early '90s u are a '90s Kid but if u were Born in '97 u are a '00s Kid u are not a 90's Kid a '90s Kid is a Kid Born in 1986-1990 or Probably 1993 that is a '90s Kid '96 or '97 is not a 90's Kid sorry u have to grow up in the 90's to listen to these Songs on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's List like Mariah Carey, Nirvana, TLC or even Destiny's Child and grow up watching the Rugrats and Hey Arnold Shows and playing the Sup Nintendo I was Born in 1990 so that makes me a True '90s Kid and a '90s Baby.
Everlast- what its like???
I can't believe nobody mentioned Type O Negative. They had a lot of well-known songs from the 90s like Christian Woman, Black No. 1, Love You to Death, My Girlfriend's Girlfriend, ect. Oh well, Vh1 sucks anyway.
I can't belive no song of Garth Brooks, or Aerosmith made the top 100 sad, sad, sad any song by either artist is way better than all on the top 100 list... Just sayin....
Mariah Carey MARIAH CAREY Tops the List of the 90s she owned the 90's as far as her High Belting Voice.
Whoever says Sublime sucks, wow. And to say that they're only for pot heads well isn't that ignorant and original. Smh.... I'll take a shot at assuming and say you haven't heard anything past What I got, Santeria, Date Rape, and Caress Me Down. Whatever. What I Got should've been somewhere on this list or at least Date Rape which is KROQ's 2nd most requested song of the 90's.
i think its messed up that there is no boyz II men or all for one on this list but otherwise its a great list!
good this band of nirvana is one of the best I have esque alternative rock but is well known and popular, and bored listening because everyone knows that the band and is very easy to enter nirvana. those who think nothing rockers saven not any talk about the band and write saven talk about the bands I recognized anyone knows them not so well known bands are the best att javier
Seems like a list made by a 10 year old girl.
This list brings back so many memories for me growing up in the 90's like Destiny's Child Say My Name that Song brings back alot of memories for me back than in the year 1999 and also the year 2000, Destiny.'s Child by far best '90s Artist(s) on this list love Beyonce Knowles she is a Great Singer and she is also a Great Dancer glad to see Destiny's Child Say My Name Rank VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's list.
Mariah Carey all the way.
How the hell can people make a list about 90's music who know nothing about the 90's what a shitty list no doubt was one the biggest bands from the 90's along with GNR and STP and they all 3 had huge hits in the 90's and what about garbage? Hole you fuc-ing idiots and if your gonna put country on there you left out Alabama Garth Brooks George straight all three of them had smashing hits in the 90's and there's more!!!!!!! You people took the greatest decade of music put a top 100 list together and fucked it up. GET PEOPLE together WHO KNOW music!!!!!
There's a lot of poor stuff in this list and a few great misses such as "Runaway Train", "Ordinary World", "Tears in Heaven" ... incredible songs in the list, such #3, #6 and 8#, what the heck is that, I was a music-nerd and I had never heard it before. Still interesting, but not a good list.
Where was Aqua - Barbie Girl ?
Come on!
You must be kidding!
Top 100 songs of 90s with no Michael Jackson songs????
Where are "Black or White", "They Don't Care About Us", "Dangerous", "Heal The World", "Who Is It", Remember the time", "You are not alone" "Earth song", "Scream", "Blood on The dance floor"
Top 90s with no Michael Jackson is more like a JOKE!
sublime not making this list is insane. not even what i got??? sublime was huge in the 90s and might have been one of the best bands of the 90s not putting them on there is joke
I watched the 5 part special where they presented the songs that people chose as the top 100. There are a couple of artists that I can't stand; I'm looking at you Celine Dion and Hanson; and some songs that might not be on my top 100, but I can't argue with this list. Every song there had a big impact on the 90's as they, changed music, laid the foundation for other artists, and they continue to survive as people's favorite songs. I especially don't disagree with Teen Spirit being at the top of the list. It, along with some of the other songs on the list, made the Seattle grunge rock scene so amazing. I grew up in the 90's and Nirvana definitely spoke to me more than any other band on the list.
I Vote for Destiny's Child Say My Name Song on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's List. Love Beyonce Knowles, Say My Name was like the ultimate '90s Song I Grew up Listening to. In the 90s.
If you are going by actual chart position based on sales and airplay, there are top 100 lists by year at http://www.musicinthenineties.com. If you do not go by statistics, then it is all up to the discretion and opion of the list make and extremly biased on that person's opinion.
I Vote for Destiny's Child Say My Name Song, the "Say My Name" Song is the really 1st True R&B Record from the '90s, and that's why it Rank #17 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's... The list... Beyonce Knowles is a Talented Belting Singer and Groovey Dancer she Ruled both Decades the '90s and the '00s, and that's why Destiny's Child "Say My Name" made this '90s list it may was a Mid-Late 90s Song but it still made this list of the 90's and 1990s.
I Love Mariah Carey she is the true Definition of the '90s, her Singing Voice Alone was Magical and than she was Beautiful, Mariah Carey could Belt out a Song hitting High Notes with her High Pitch Voice with her 7 Octave Vocal Range she has the Highest Female Vocal Range Ever Whitney Houston Can't even reach the Great Voice Potential of Mariah Carey, Mariah Carey "Vision of Love" Song still till this day is the most Difficult Song to try to Sing , and that's why Mariah Carey is Voted on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's, Mariah Carey is one of my Favorite Artists of the 90s. Love Mariah Carey.
I really don't think Destiny's Child "Say My Name" was not all that Great of the 90's, they could of Slid Back a lot of Slots on this 90s List, why are a Late '90s Song is almost #1, Destiny's Child was just OKAY of the 90's.
The Artist I LOVE on this list is? Mariah Carey, that Voice is so freaking High Pitch it gives my Dogs Seizures and I (LOVE) it. Love MARIAH.
Say My Name Every other day I would call and Say baby how's your day but today it ain't the same, first of all let me say could it be that you are at a crib with another lady Say My Name "Say My Name". Love Destiny's Child and Beyonce, Greatest R&B Song of the 90's.
wow! go lambs! attack those bitches who made these stupid list! MARIAH SHOULD'VE BEEN AT LEAST IN THE TOP5 if not #1. and more ENTRIES! i wonder what planet are these ppl in, in the 90's. they dont know a shit.

I Love this List not only does it bring back Memories but it Truely makes me feel like a '90s Kid, being that I was Born on April 6th, 1990. And I Love that they put Destiny's Child "Say My Name" #17 I Love Destiny's Child they were a Big 90s Part of my Upbringing Back Then. And Beyonce Knowles Ruled 2 Decades of Music the 90's and the 00's along with Destiny's Child. I Like when when VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's first comes on and they show all the Artists before the Show actually Begins, and they put And showed a Glimpse of Beyonce Knowles I Lovedddddd that Part this Series Rocked it made me Fall in Love with the '90s even more. Wait Ago VH1.
Destiny's Child "Say My Name" I Love that Song, and they actually took 2Pac Off the list and replaced him with Craig Mack at #51.
Destiny's Child "Say My Name" is not the Best Song on the list (EDUARDO), the Best Song on the list is Mariah Carey "Vision of Love" and Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
Some of you guys complaining about the inadequacy of this list are forgetting that it's from VH1, a network that recently included Miley Cyrus as one of the 100 greatest women in music. Their lists are not meant to be the most authoritative.
I agree with Asleigh. I love Miley don't get me wrong, but she has too much work ahead her to even be considered as one of the 100 greatest woman in music (are you kidding me?) they needed to make 100, so they added her, plain and simple.
EWWWWWWWW Haha, I Love Destiny's Child "Say My Name" That's a Hot Song of the '90s.
Duncan Sheil "Barely Breathing is Ranked Really Low, but Destiny's Child Late '90s Song "Say My Name" is Ranked Awfully High this list is all Wrong. And I thought that Destiny's Child "Say My Name" was a 90's and 00's Song it carried all the way to the 00s. And I hate this list.
Excited to see Destiny's Child "Say My Name" make the VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's list. Beyonce Knowles was even Ruling the World Back Then in the '90s as well as the '00s Beyonce made an Impact in too.
No Offspring? Garbage!
Love Destiny's Child "Say My Name" that Beyonce Knowles was so Hot and Beautiful in the Music Video "Say My Name" 1999.
I Love This list... VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's, I like how the list was Made and Ranked. Especially when I seen Destiny's Child - "Say My Name" Song on the list, I Love Beyonce Knowles so much and I think 'NSync " I Wan't You Back" Song should be on this list... But as far I Love the list. Especially Destiny's Child - "Say My Name". Great Song of the 90's.
I just Love Mariah Carey she should have been #1 with "Vision of Love". And I wish they would of put more Mariah Songs on this list... Mariah Carey took the '90s by Storm.
no gwen stefani?
I'm a White Man and I have to tell you that I Love Destiny's Child - "Say My Name" that is the Best Song of the '90's. Ohhhh and Love Beyonce Knowles Singing and Dancing Abilities Too.
Mariah Carey - "Vision of Love" (1990 #1 US). Song Rules the '90s Mariah Carey is Suppose to be NUMBER (1} on this list.
Mariah Carey RULES - "Vision of Love" should of been #1. And Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit" should of been #2. Mariah Carey is the Greatest 90's Musical Artist on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's.
I Love Missy Elliot "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)". She was a Great Rapper and Good Dancer. FICKIE FICKIE FICKIE Fickie Fickie. Missy Elliot was a Rare Artist of the 90's.
I Knew this was gonna be a Great list once I seen Destiny's Child - "Say My Name" on this list. I just Love Beyonce Knowles even though the Song is a Late '90s Song it still (Ranked: 17) on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's, Beyonce Knowles from back in the day/90's was so Hot and Pretty now BEYONCE is a Singles Ladies Dancing Machine with a Voice of Three-Octaves and a Talented Artist of the 00's Now.
Love Destiny's Child - "Say My Name". Beyonce was even Hot Back In The 90's, man I Miss the '90s so much but I am glad to be a 90's Kid.
Mariah Carey "Vision of Love". Has my Vote I LOVE Mariah Carey Mainly realllyyyyyy because of her High Notes, she is the Best Singer EVER and the Greatest Artist of the '90s.
I'm a White Guy I have to say I Love Destiny's Child - "Say My Name". Beyonce was Very Beautiful Black Woman from Back In The 90's. Beyonce Can Do Both Very Well She can Sing and Dance Good. Talented this Song had me telling my Girlfriend Say My Name or I will Dump You. Hahaha.
This list May Not Be Suitable For You if you did not Grow Up on '90s Nickelodeon, The Super Nintendo, Clueless Movie, Home Alone Movie, Nirvana and Mariah Carey Music. VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's list Are Only for 90's Kids Only a Kid Born in 1990-1995. Kids Born in '97-'99 Are not 90's Kids you are considered New Milenium 00's Kids SORRY Haha. You gotta Know Every Mariah Carey Song in order to be a 100% 90's Kid.
Love Christina Aguilera - "Genie In a Bottle". I had no idea she was Hispanic, her Father is from Ecuador how COOL.
LOVE Destiny's Child - "Say My Name". That has to be Like the Best R&B 90's Song on this list. Beyonce Knowles Rocks I Love Beyonce and Destiny's Child, VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's list wouldn't be Complete without Destiny's Child - " Say My Name".
Thanks for the memories the 90s were the best.
I feel Scatman John should have placed somewhere on that list. i have never heard a song by him that i have not loved
I agree, the list is flawed, mariah carey & boyzIImen shouldve made the top ten with one sweet day, savage garden as well. dump those aweful songs like rico suave, humpty dance and make room for deserving 90's hits!
Bryan Adams - Everything I do and/or , Can't Stop thing We Started shoulded have been on this list
Just a Joke. No Smashing Pumpkins (Bullet with butterfly wings, Today), James (Sit Down, Born of Frustration), The Verve (Lucky Man). These songs should not be forgotten about. Radiohead have much better songs than Creep and the top 2 in the list will only sound great to anybody who has not heard them 100 times already
@josephine87 - maybe your thinking of the happy mondays
@aramni - gwen stefani was part of No Doubt in the 90's and had not her album out till 2004
@Derek - The Smiths had broken up by 1987
@bill c - That song is from 1989 so it just missed out ;-)
@coldplay and smashing pumpkins lover - Coldplay had not their debut album out till 2000 and were not well known until then
@Ryan - That song is from 2001
@Marcus - Whitney Houston was already a huge star by 1992. She had major record label backing and promotional support at this time. Nirvana had not. They had only finished their second album.
"I will always love you" has aged badly, but "Smells like teen spirit" still retains something....
are you kiddin me? wheres the hell nena??
Wallflowers and Smashing Pumpkins?? Off the list - are you kidding me?

No Stone Temple Pilots? Would expect at least one of Plush or Interstate Lovesong, if not both.
Lots of one hit wonders on there, not that a top 100 songs of the 90's should discriminate against one-hit wonders, but some recognition for STP would have been appropriate, in my opinion.
yeah, this is why voting is worthless. the problem here is that, yeah, it seems like a good idea to let popular opinion decide the best of, but most people don't dedicate as much time and energy as is necessary to the religion of popular music to be able to offer any legitimate summary of a decade of music. i, for one, believe that the 90's were the best decade of music, but not for boy bands or any other corporate made musician/group. the 90's, to me, was significant for music because anybody and their brothermother could get into that mainstream success if only they wrote at least one great, catchy song. it seems like the best decade for the musician who's out there to make it and not just for art's sake. but even for the latter category you've got a plethora of bands who didn't bother with popular consensus what was acceptable music (thinking Mr. Bungle, Modest Mouse, Melt Banana (?), even NIN (Reznor's music was revolutionary and not particularly pleasant), anyway. here i stop
yeh, i agree that music is good
Surprised that "New Radicals" wasn't listed. They rounded out the 90's for me.
VH1 List sucks. I got more good songs i forgot about by reading the comments.
where the heeeell is nookie of limp bizkit?!!??!? "I DID IT ALL FOR THE NOOKIE" was the frase of the 1999 summer!
where the heeeell is nookie of limp bizkit?!!??!? "I DID IT ALL FOR THE NOOKIE" was the phrase of the 1999 summer!
for me the best song ever is Depeche Mode - Walking in My Shoes
Johnny Rzeznik should personally hunt you down for having the most played song of the 90's listed all the way down at 39! Iris deserves better.
Could someone please dub these all down to cassette and send them to me? Could you do that for me?
WOW no depeche mode? I've had enough
Thanks for sharing this hub! I already commented on your awesome 80's hits hub which was also awesome.
As i mentioned in the other hub, your hub has inspired me to make a hub comparing this hub and the other hub you created about the 90's top hits.
So if anyone is interested, take a second and check out my hub comparing the music of the 90's with the music of 80's.

Thank rb101182 for this hub creation :D
you forgot sublime
Eduardo where or should I say who are you?????
Eduardo what do you think of.... Destiny's Child "Say My Name"? I think it is the BEST SONG EVER!!!!!!
Queen dont forget ened on a high in the 90s and are a 90 bands in that respect, innuendo and made in heaven
Where is Michael Jackson ?
:[
AALIYAH!!!!!!! :'(
Number 78 is wrong its not Lenny Kravitz “Are You Gonna Go My Way”, its "Closing Time" By Semisonic
wtf no Hole, Garbage, Sublime, Depeche Mode, or Smashing Pumkins???!!!!
I disagree with a lot of what this list has to say. But what really makes me irate is that Chumbawamba's Tubthumping NEVER MADE THE LIST!
How do you have a 90's mix without adding it?????
How come not one selena song
I think this is a great list but not a complete list. I honestly think that the 90's could have a top 200 list and it would help in making this more complete. The 90's was a breeding ground for a lot of different types of music Grunge, Rap, Hip-Hop/R&B, Slow Jamz, Boy Bands, Pop, etc... In an effort to make a more complete list I would suggest either breaking down the genre's into their own Top 100 or making the initial list larger maybe 200 to start. Either way enjoyed the memories many of these songs brought back, I miss the 90's for a lot of reasons but the music especially. thank you VH1
what about "baby one more time"? That song is a massive hit
Michael Jackson's 'Dangerous' ranks 13th on the best selling albums of all time. He released nine singles from that album. Even Dangerous' lesser known songs and many from 1995's HIStory would give a lyrical and compositional whipping to some of those featuring on the VH1 list.
On another Jackson note, 'Janet' also saw the release on nine singles, six of which made the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10. Not a single number made the list. Let's not forget Janet's collaboration with Luther Vandross 'The Best Things in Life are Free, Runaway, Together Again and Love Will Never Do (Without You)' outside of the 1993 album.
In my opinion, together Michael and Janet penned songs in the 90's better than half the numbers on the VH1 list.
Definitely on board with everyone that says this list is GARBAGE!!!! Lots of songs shouldn't be on that list at all. Quick Example: @ #98 They put Prince "Get Off"...only one Prince song deserves to be on this list and its "Diamonds and Pearls" but to exclude MJ, Janet, NIN...Just BLASPHEMY!!!!
You forgot 'Blue' by Eiffel 65!!!!!
Where is blink 182? I don't see it anywhere...
No Petty "Free Falling", Gwen Stafani (No Doubt), Gerogia Satellites, Black Crows
No Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, Hole, Stone Temple Pilots, Blink-182, The Cranberries, Marilyn Manson, Michael Jackson, The Offspring, etc.? The fuck? A lot of these songs are good, but most of the good ones are too high up, like "Man In The Box", "Black Hole Sun", "Shine", etc. Not only that, but the list was just way too predictable. I already knew "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana would be at the very top, with Britney Spears and other poppy shit in the top-ten with it. All in all, I'm just glad some good bands like Nirvana, u2, and R.E.M. made it to the top 10.
I don't think a Top 100 of list of '90's songs could work out. The '90s was a pretty diverse decade, musically, with genres like Grunge, Punk, Alternative in general, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, and such. It would only work out if each of the genres had their own lists, if they don't already.
bisogna sentire per credere. e la musica vera
Wow, I can't believe people are still posting on this. Anyway, I think the list is pretty good - there are some obvious ones that I think should be included, but I'm generally happy with it. I was particularly pleased that Alice in Chains made the list. I think this is really supposed to be "Top 100 most memorable songs from the 90s", not necessarily the best or most popular songs from the 90s.
Love Destiny's Child "Say My Name" the best Song back in the 90's.
I Love it when Beyonce Knowles turns her head at the beginning of the VH1' s 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's Promo it looks so 90's and cool.
Glad im not the only one who hates that there is no savage garden
This list is the best list of the 90's I Love Destiny's Child "Say My Name" lol the best Song back in the 90's.
Destiny's Child Say My Name is the best of all the 90's.
There's a lot of music missing on this list. I've put together a list of over 500 songs of the 90's including Hip-Hop, Alternative, and Grunge, that played on MTV's 120 Minutes and Headbanger's Ball and the overnight video blocks. This isn't nearly complete.
I will never ever see where "smells like Teenage Spirit" can even be considered music...I can almost understand these assholes that sing this death metal better!!!! And the rest of the list is certainly no representation of the true good music that came out of the 90's. Yes after reading some of the comments; I can see where this messed up list is more or less a compilation of what the bubblegum crowd was listening to and not taking into consideration what the rest of the world was doing. yes its teens that buy the records but its the adults who buy the concert tickets(where the big money comes in).
Aerosmith easily could have had 2 songs, Mariah at least 3. Many acts were not even included who have paved the way for the music we are listening to here in the 10's.
In other plain language and to quote about 75% of the commentators
THIS LIST IS FOR THE BIRDS!!!!
Ok George but Destiny's Child "Say My Name" needs to be on this list because there are not few R&B Songs of the 90's on this list but Destiny's Child Say My Name that was a great Song back in the 90's.
If there's any top 100 list that could potentially include Bitter Sweet Symphony, and it doesn't include Bitter Sweet Symphony, then it, quite frankly, is a shit list.
Every Morning - Sugar Ray
Eduardo- I agree to destiny's Child being there.. It was part of the music genre for the time and then that genre split and brought us today's genre of the Lady Gaga's and katy perry's. So considering that, the Spice girls should be in there well!
George- Thanks for considering Destiny's Child "Say My Name" on the 90's VH1 list... even though Say My Name was a late '90s Song it's still a 90's Song back in the 90's only the Music Video came out in the early 2000's but the actual Song was recorded in 1999 and the Song also (Ranked: 69)'s Digitaldreamdoor.com's 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs of the 1990s and also (Ranked: 17) on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's, so technically it is a 90's Song, only the Video came out in the early 2000's Destiny's Child was a Girl Group back in the late '90s and nowadays Beyonce Knowles is better now before her Destiny's Child days Lol thanks - George.
Love Destiny's Child Say My Name WOW I am glad VH1 put Destiny's Child on the list.
My favorite '90s artists and songs are TLC "Waterfalls", Mariah Carey "Vision Of Love", Destiny's Child "Say My Name", Fugees "Killing Me Softly", Digital Underground "The Humpty Dance", Missy Elliot "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)", these are my Favorite artists on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's, especially Destiny's Child Say My Name lol, I am glad to be a 90's Kid lol.
Can agree with all but the fugees cover of killing me softly.. Only Roberta Flack can do that song justice! i agree the Fugees are a decent band but I just do not like their cover of that song.
Yeah I agree too Fugees Killing Me Softly was wack, but at least Destiny's Child "Say My Name" made the list, you should see the video back in the 90's Destiny's Child killed the "Say My Name" video it was great.
Destiny's Child "Say My Name" is on the VH1 90's Songs list, everyone thinks the Song was a Ridic because it's a 00's Song than anything but the actual Song was recorded in 1999 only the Video was released in the early 00's but the actual Song is a 90's Song EVERYBODY.
crack
crack
Destiny's Child "Say My Name" is all I have to say Lol.
Say My Name Say My Name When No One Is Around You Better Say My Name.
I say give your name to the men in white coats and have you banished for improper use of a hub to show your idiotcy! you ruined a hub with your pathetic childishness!
George - I'll show you I'm not Childish, of course I Love Destiny's Child "Say My Name" but where is Pantera "Cemetery Gates" Phil Anselmo voice was Amazing on that Song. See I'm not Childish. Lol.
This list eats, the Pixies owned you all and you never even knew... shame on your name.
So yeah.... I LOVE how many people showed love for Savage Garden!!!!! The fact that none of their songs are on here is unreal! I love them and always will. They belong on this!
I Love Destiny's Child "Say My Name". So '90s. Love me some Beyonce Knowles.
Destiny's Child "Say My Name" is a 90's Song only the Video came out in the early 2000's but the actual Song is a 90's Song.
Destiny's Child "Say My Name" is a great late '90s Song, besides Backstreet Boys "I Want It That Way" (1999). They both deserve to make this list...
R.I.P to "Chris Kelly" Mac Daddy of Kris Kross "Jump" was one of the Best Songs of the 90's, besides Destiny's Child "Say My Name" lol.
Destiny's Child "Say My Name" LOVE IT SO MUCH.
